Team suspension, NCAA ban from games, expulsion from the team would all be appropriate, but the talk of arrests and possible jail seems way over-the-top to me.

I suppose both Gibbs and Arcidiacono are both fortunate that no damage was done. Clearly the discussion would be at a different level if Arcidiacona had lost an eye.

Situations where intent can't be proved (Ben Christenson) or facts aren't all known (a he said, she said scenario where witnesses were lacking) are different. You can't press charges when key items are in doubt.
I just think that when someone maliciously punches someone, in front of many witnesses, with no other extenuating circumstances, charges should be filed. At that point, I don't care if the victim just wants to let it go. The punishment doesn't need to necessarily be jail time, but the fact that legally, no action gets taken whatsoever is just weird to me.

This is why the penalties from Seton Hall and/or the NCAA need to have enough teeth to them to be somewhat of a detriment since legal action is unlikely sans significant bodily injury to the victim.

Gibbs get a 2 game suspension.
As Royal posted last night, shortly after the game Gibbs apologized on Twitter:
"Man that's not who I am. I'm sorry to my family, friends, fans, and team for being an embarrassment. Even more sorry to @RyArch15 .. I let My emotions get the best of me and that wasn't acceptable at all. I hope you're alright and I will face any consequences coming," he wrote.
Arcidiacono accepted the apology, tweeting: "Emotions sometimes get the best of us. heat of the moment thing. We're all good. @SterlingGibbs4."

Thanks for bringing this back up. Did I mention that I'm still bitter? And that I couldn't have been more stoked about the pounding we gave Pitt in the NCAAs.

I understand the Hannah sentiment, but it's apples to oranges. This is an internal punishment given by the university, they could have given him zero suspension. Hannah was suspended by the NCAA.
