  • Thanks, '79 -- I just didn't scroll down far enough. What an unlikely duo Baker and FVV are, and what a perfect match.

With all due respect to the author this will not be easy peasy lemon squeasy.
So many people just make the assumption that the best team should always win a game against a lesser opponent ... which is SO illogical. It almost never happens that way. Even very good teams will lose to very bad teams -- Michigan State is CLEARLY a better team than 2-8 Texas Southern, but it didn't stop Texas Southern from winning @MSU. Seasons are a grind and the better team constantly loses to inferior teams over the length of that season. Which is what made WSU's season so spectacular last year -- they didn't go undefeated because they played teams inferior to them. They went undefeated because they played teams inferior to them and never backed off, got complacent, overlooked an opponent, etc., etc., etc. They did all of the things that superior teams rarely do against inferior teams.

If WSU goes undefeated the rest of the way, it won't because they lack P5 teams and ranked teams on the schedule. It'll be because they have amazing focus. Eight of the top 25 teams right now have losses to unranked teams, and most of those are also "non-P5" teams.

Not to mention that he clearly doesn't understand that we're in a tournament and we're likely to play two more "P5" schools in Hawaii.

        • While Mrs Moshock and I were riding around doing our last minute Christmas shopping today, I tuned in to the Jim Rome show (yes I'm a clone). He is doing a 2014 year in review. The second thing he had on the show was the January interview with HC3G. It was the famous "If I were KU - I wouldn't play us either" punking of the rug.

Rome also said that HC3G is "the best interview in college basketball".

I turned to Mrs Mo and said " Coach Marshall is straight cash homie." I received "the look" in return.

That is really interesting. I figured steals are higher than blocks because steals necessarily result in a change of possession. Turnovers in general are lower than just blocks, though. There must be some psychological effect of steals and blocks too. I guess turnovers in general don't necessarily allow an easy transition bucket but steals are likely to result in one. Interesting. Thanks for posting that.

            • Points off turnovers should be a huge "moneyball" stat for guards.

Blocks and Offensive Rebounds for bigs.

              • A Dozen Words About My Top 12 Teams

                11. Wichita State: The Shockers played angrily, but it was not all that well against Detroit, Alabama.

                Report Card

                Wichita State:
If I had to power rank the Missouri Valley Conference right now I’m not sure I’d put the Shockers on top. Northern Iowa is playing better than Gregg Marshall’s squad, which had to come from behind to beat Detroit, Alabama and Hawaii.

The Kentucky Wildcats are so dominant, deep and talented that it’s probably safe to etch their name in permanent marker at the top of every Top 25 ballot that’s distributed for the rest of the season...

Sadly I can't disagree, the new guy's looked good yesterday. Ron, Fred, and Cotton seem to have a bad case of dribbling to much the last few games. Need more touch's inside. Love Fred but Kelly baled his ass out on that last shot.

I feel like our guards try to do too much, maybe they don't have confidence in our post guys. However, the more and more the young guys step up, the more our guards will get them touches, the better our team will be. Cle was doubled so much last year that our guards could do what ever thy wanted. Now that the d guards our perimeter tighter, the more our guards need to adjust. Theta what the first two months are all about.

Let's trade schedules and see how each other looks. UNI may be good and will be a formidable foe, but their schedule wreaks.

Again, these writers are used to seeing 20 point beatdowns at every turn like last year. That isn't happening and now we're a rung below Northern Iowa? Come freaking on.

Until a Valley team does something no Valley team has done to WSU in 20 months, WSU is the team to beat. Period.

Also, is KU about 5th in the Big XII pecking order after they got annihilated against a pedestrian Temple team? Double standards.

                      ... No really, deuces.

                      • I agree Fever...and also have UNI go to a Final Four and be 35-1 the following year and have a #11 in front of your name...then see how all of these teams play you. Suddenly the "lesser" teams find a way to play about 3x better than they normally would. Until then, you are just a directional school on their schedule.
