In 1962, when Wichita U. was trying to establish itself as a legitimate state university, KU and K-State wanted Wichita to just be an "attendance center", with KU and K-State governing it. All decisions would be made in Lawrence and Manhattan, but Wichita taxpayers would still be footing the cost. Thankfully, a group of Kansas legislators attended a Wichita U. basketball game at which Dave "the Rave" Stallworth played and came away convinced that WU's academic programs must be indicative of a "real university" and the rest is history. "Hank Iba decided he wouldn't play my team anymore. He told me that if he tried to get his team ready to play me, it would upset his team the rest of the season." Gene Johnson, WU Basketball coach, 1928-1933.

        • @sn_ncaab: Don't hate Wichita's Shockers because they're perfect http://bit.ly/1gRZ9bv

In 2010, though, Kansas was the No. 1 team in the polls and the RPI, the Big 12 champ and the top overall seed in the tournament. And the Jayhawks still lost to Northern Iowa. Don’t think anyone was griping about KU’s seeding then.

The writer is making the argument that there are some people who would take the Shockers more seriously if they had one loss. However, he is arguing against that position, not agreeing with it. (Besides the point of a headline is to provoke a reaction that gets you to read the article)

It makes sense with the content of the article, and it's a good article. I like Mellinger because he cuts to the heart of things.

                        • I'm glad Stephen F. Austin got some love too. I don't see how Okie State can still be talked about as being an at-large team and SFA can be summarilly dismissed.

(I mean, I know precisely how, you don't have to tell me; I mean in a perfectly just world.)

                            • Yeah, but you gotta go with who brought ya. We talk about how we can only beat the teams we can schedule, and SFA haven't lost since November. If it's worth something to us, it's gotta be worth something to them.

                              • Sorta. Their OOC SOS is 298.

They basically took a buy game at Texas (who is much better than expected) then tried to play nothing but 200+ creampuffs. I'd feel differently if they had at least made an effort in the non-con.
