We can make our own bones if we win, though.
No one will compare us at this point. We stand on our own work in the tourney.

I would think WSU is a better candidate for a non-football member for the American 12 than VCU for a bunch of reasons.

I think any fantasy of adding an A10 school is simply that, fantasy. Most like the east coast exposure and the ones we could potentially get are expected to join the BE anyway.
Very clever, I've never held back the fact that I am a student at KU - for reasons that I've said in the past - and a freshmen at KU for that matter so me joining in 2009 when I was a freshman in HS should have some indication of how much WSU basketball meant to my childhood. I grew up going to games, I shouldn't have to feel like I have to defend myself as a WSU fan when I come on here. Will I have the same connection to the school that students and alums have? No, but my passion for WSU athletics is unwavering. To this day I am much more a WSU fan than a KU fan.

Back on topic...I do agree with you that landing a A-10 school is a longshot. However, Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.

A theme that hopefully strikes a chord with our administration as well. Shatel is a very good columnist, one of my favorites. I grew up reading his coverage about athletics in the state of Nebraska. He's not a NU or CU guy, but actually a Mizzou guy. Worth a read.
First of all I will readily admit that I am envious of the position Creighton finds itself in. However, this opportunity that Creighton has and will no doubt accept seems to me to have more to do with happenstance and luck of the draw than anything particularly pro-active that Creighton's adminsitration has done. although I could easily be missing something here.

Good for Creighton! C'mon Wichita St. ........you're next to make a move upward!!!!!!
Oh.....and what a great story for Creighton to announce before the NCAA tourney. You couldn't ask for a better "marketing" tool. CBS will be eating that up in all their games they broadcast and between game reports. Nice way to announce to the world you're leaving the Valley and moving to a Power Conference. Good for them!

With all due respect, you are wrong. There was luck in Creighton getting the invite, but the luck was created by the timing of the C7 leaving. Creighton's new president, I think his name is Lannon, has been working on something like this since he started. He is the former president at St Joe's, is very well connected on the East coast and has been politicking a move with all of these schools. It has been no secret that he wanted something like this, he has positioned Creighton for a move for the last two years. In Omaha, there was no secrets about his desire, but the only luck was that the Big East broke up now, not two years ago. If Schlagel was Creighton's president today, Creighton would be staying in the Valley.

Regardless of our "differences", Creighton has been our friend more than our enemy. It's unfortunate they are leaving. Hopefully our staff will have the foresight theirs did. They certainly were presented with a wonderful opportunity, and while I understand the same type of opportunity is far less likely to appear for Wichita State, it is incumbent upon our leadership to prepare for the possibility, just as Creighton did.

Personally, I harbor no ill will towards CU, until and unless they refuse to play us home and home.

Great insights. Thanks. Now if that had been included in the posted article I was responding to I would have had a different take.

I would prefer an annual game in Kansas City. That would be cool and think of the crowds.

I wonder what its going to be like for cretin to go from being at the top of expenditures for basketball in the valley to one of the bottom feeders as far as expenditures in the new big east? They will almost have to double their current budget to spend what the average budget is for the new big east. They will have to increase ticket prices to some serious levels.

I wonder if you could have 2 games and NOT count it as an exempt tourney?

Creighton v Gonzaga then WSU v Memphis with the winners and losers matching up?

They will be getting a lot more money in the new conference. No need to worry.

They're going from 300k to 3m in TV revenue. Spending more won't be an issue.

I don't see why not. I'm not sure people would want to give up two home games though.

If we are going to do that, it would probably be easier to get someone closer than Gonzaga. Perhaps a Mizzou, who desperately wants to maintain a presence in KC, or an Iowa St?

Rotate that around. One year in Omaha, one year at IBA and one year at the Sprint Center. Doesn't need to be Gonaga and Memphis every year. Also I would like to play Creighton so make it WSU vs Creighton on the 1st night with the winners to play whomever on the 2nd night.
