I don't care if I get flamed for this: All of this vitriol for Crieighton jumping leagues is pure jealousy. I would kill to switch places with them, and so would every objective person in his or her right mind.

Who cares what they spend and who they recruit now? Are we really contending that with this new upgrade they don't have the opportunity to correct this? Would the same people contend that WSU has no chance to compete in the Big East?

These arguments that imply that it would somehow be better to remain a big fish in a little pond are disingenuous. The small ponds are being drained at an alarming rate.

BJ recruits players that are similar to NIU.. corn-fed and smart. If they are hitting their shots they can sink a decent BCS team every now and then, but over the course of a season, and especially in a conference full of athletic teams, they would be doomed if they didn't significantly change the makeup of their roster. They need athletic post men who can rebound and play above the rim. The Slo-Mo Gibbs and Wragge-like players can survive in a mid-major conference, but would be toast against teams like GTown.

Is the new league a couple of former "power conference" teams lining up with a bunch of "mid-majors" to form a new "power conference"? Or is it a couple of former "power conference" teams hooking up with a bunch of "mid-majors" to form a new "mid-major" conference.

I'm going to guess that the sports media will not classify the New Big East as a "mid-major" - mostly because of East Coast bias and a few "name" teams. Georgetown and Villanova are taking a huge step backwards, but they didn't really have a choice. They were going to get discarded by the FB schools, so they did the best they could when they were getting left behind.

The name of the conference should be "The Notre Dame, Jr., Conference". I'm not impressed by teams being included in a conference based on their schools religious affiliation.

Thanks kc but I kind of knew that. That entire post was sarcastic because the whole NIU thing usually draws out their fans and they usually say something like "it's not NIU its UNI!'

I was just helping out by impersonating a token panther since none of them are around lately.
