I usually don't respond to threads like this because someone invariably posts what I am thinking quite nicely.

The spoiled kiddos that are ragging on our fanbase need a little perspective. Thanks for the supportive comments from those of you who understand where the program has come from.

We have a very loyal group of people that will never give up on the Shox. Period. I expect dissappointment from people. It is very frustrating to watch what's going on.

I hate watching people get up an leave, but that is the nature of some fans. Crap, I remember a game 3 or 4 years ago that we tied and heading into overtime watched probably 1500 people bust to their cars.

Oh, and by the way, if the students are so supportive, what's up with the 500 empty seats in the student section last night?

Where do you sit, Shocktoberfest? I'll meander over your way Saturday and be thrilled to discuss the future of Shocker basketball with this individual.

Cut the students a bit of slack. It was Day 2 of classes. I don't know about some students on this board, but I am certainly NOT at WSU just for the free games. It's a nice perk, and I love the Shox, but it's not that important. I know of several students that have 7pm classes. I knew another student who was sick. Personally, I was tired and cold. I could have easily justified staying home and studying instead of watching a struggling team get smacked around...

I am not sure there is going to be that much to watch but you might want to send the women and children to the SASO room. In my state of mind right now, my tolerance for stupidity is low and my french is, shall we say, fluent.

I call B.S. on that one. I didn't have to do much studying at all after the 2nd day of classes. Plus how many students live over at Fairmount Towers? The minute it takes to walk across the street is too much for them? Free tickets are free tickets. I didn't get free tickets when I was a student at WSU. Neither did any of the other people I went to school with. The students appearing to give up on the team is not a good thing, period.

I agree completely. The crowd sucked last night. People just sit there doing nothing. The loudest it was in there last night was when people cheered the team off the court. I do understand we arent playing the best basketball right now but the people that paid for the tickets and just let them go to waste is what really makes me mad. I know for a fact there are people that would love to go to the games, just let them have your ticket for the games you arent wanting to go to. I only expect it to get worse as the season goes on too. Hopefully I will be proven wrong.

To the Shocker baseball in the playoffs, the crowd was great in most of the games. But as someone who went to all of them even every single game in the regional. After we lost our first game people quit going until the final regional game. Was sort of pathetic too.

How do other students at different schools manage to pack in their student sections during midweek games?

Remember weekday games make up at least half, if not more, of the entire schedule. The weekday excuse is not a valid one. No one was making that excuse in 2006 and early 2007.

I have to say that our "fans" are the most pathetic fans I've ever seen. I know there isn't a lot to be happy about sometimes, but when there is a moment to be joyful about, the patrons of Koch arena seem dead. I looked around several times tonight when we cut it to five during the dwindling minutes of the game, going nuts myself, and noticed everyone sitting around, seemingly lifeless in their chairs. No wonder our Wranglers left, no wonder we don't have a football team. There is no market for either because Wichitans are fair weather, bandwagon, lifeless fans. Someone made a post about us becoming "the cubs of college basketball". Well, anyone who has been to a Cubs game knows that no matter what, Wrigley is rockin. I'm sorry, but I was disgusted. Can't wait for another baseball super regional when Wichitans finally decide to buy tickets when we're good. What a disgrace.

Have a coke and a smile and shut the eff up!!!!! You are the joke, not the true fans of WSU.

I made every effort to make every game while in school. And I had to pay for my tickets. Utterly Dissapointed in the "shocker faithful"

and its pretty bad when even our coach has to wave for the fans to get up.

I mean don't get me wrong I agree with you to a certain extent, but ranting about it isn't going to do a thing. The fact is, to alot of Wichita's older citizens, Shocker games are seen as more of a social event.

Im not perfect.
But.
I dunno
asking fans to stand for 1min 20 secs game time at the end of a game when we were within 4.... isnt much to ask.

Funny how that wasn't an issue in 2005-06-early 07. I guess the student unemployment rate at the time was high.. right?
