  • 1) If you bring the ball up slowly and waste the first pass or two, you have wasted 15 seconds of your possession that you apparently needed if you are jacking up last second shots.

    2) Most of the time, if the teammate you're passing the ball to has already arrived at his position and is standing there, it is too late to pass him the ball.

    3) While breaking a zone, if you putting the ball on the floor and not penetrating, you and/or your teammates are probably not breaking the zone effectively.

    4) While breaking a zone, if you are holding the ball, you and/or your teammates are probably not breaking the zone.

    5) While breaking a zone, if you are holding the ball and then put the ball on the floor without penetrating, you and/or your teammates are probably lost on how to break the zone.

    6) If you are an athletic team with a deep bench and you are not constantly in motion, and/or setting picks, and/or not using good technique in utilizing picks, you are creating #1-5.

    7) If you are in the second half of a tough battle with a quality team, don't use your timeouts in key spots and win, it is an on the job learning experience for your players (maybe). If you are in the second half of a tough battle with a quality team, don't use your timeouts in key spots and lose, you missed the opportunity to teach your players and win.

OK. Take your shots at this armchair coach. I love having HCGM and in no way have the basketball knowledge he has in his little pinky. I want to learn. :wsu_posters:

    • I am starting to make myself believe that GM is going to blow the whole offense up and we will see something drastically different.

I think it will revolve around Early and Wiggins. I think Wiggins was set to play a lot yesterday, but that one play where he didnt dive set Marshall off so much that he became unglued and just couldnt go with what hus initial instinct was. Which was unleash Wiggins on that zone.

I dont know, maybe just wishful thinking, but Wiggins is like not driving the sportscar because its dirty.

Defense isnt costing us games, for the most part. Its offense. Its coming up empty on 3 or 4 possessions when we are getting stops, etc.

      • The one outliar from all of our games so far is that we got beat on the boards for one of the first times all season. We win the boards by five and we probably win a close game. Our defense was good enough, our offense isn't much different than we've done most games. The answer is simple. We got beat inside. Our guards didn't get the entry pass when we were open. They double teamed Hall when he did get the ball. Hall and Early weren't active on the offensive boards.

        • I am glad that my drive home is not as long as iam4wsu's is.

Any reference to Butch Cassody works for me.

We try to get there at 6:20-6:30 to watch the shoot around. At one point Wiggins made 9 straight 3's, missed one, then hit 7 in a row. We never got him a single look.

Part of the problem with Wiggins is that he doesn't make his own looks. He needs a penetration and kickout for him to get an open shot and if the defense doesn't bite and stays with him, he isn't open. He needs to get a medium range offense going because with a fake, he can get open 17 footer anytime he wants.

            • Andy Glockner from SI was on 610 this morning and Parkins asked him about Wichita State and whether they were for real. He stated that despite the loss last night, he liked us and that ISub was a good team. He couldn't hear him very good but I thought that he said that he thought that the Shocks could make a run in March deep into the tournament.

If Wiggins was on any other valley team, he would probably be getting 10-15 shots a game.

                • But, as much as I think Wiggins could play more. GM is our coach, and I support him 100% in his decisions. And admit that he's forgotten more about the game then Ill ever know. And his approach is why we are where we are.

If the team could play good defense, he wouldn't get 10-15 good shots unless he can create better than he creating now. Additional playing time would help him though.

I'm a little confused here. The boxscore says WSU 33, IN St 29 rebounds. IN St shot 53.3%, so less chance for defensive rebounds for WSU, but WSU got 18 offensive rebounds. Lots of opportunities to score, but we didn't.

The box that I saw this morning showed ISUb with 35 rebounds and us with 34 I thought. Maybe my memory is failing me. We usually win that war.

I saw somewhere we were out rebounded I believe 34-35, or close to it. Thought that was in Sully's article this morning.

                          • I would just like to point out a few things. We didn't get out rebounded by ability, just due to quantity of missed shots. We recovered 42.2% of our misses on the offensive end, our season average is 38.9(16th best in the country). On the defensive end we pulled in 62.5%, below our season average, but the difference was that we missed 45 shots and they only missed 24.
And just to point out how well this team has done, last season's team was 18-4(9-2) coming off a loss at Drake after 22 games.

I dunno that he should play more, but when he is in the game I think we should run stuff for him.

                              • After watching this team all year I'm not sure that A) we have any "stuff" in place to run or B) the players are unable or unwilling to run said "stuff".

When we can get out and run, thus removing half court offense from the equation, we can beat anyone in the country. When we are forced to play in the half court we can be beat by anyone in the country. I believe our offense is that bad.

That being said the guys are 19-3 and tied for first in the Valley. There is lots of room to improve and increase consistency. I'm just starting to worry that we haven't improved that much this year.
