I'm glad Coach may have finally given the break lights to Jake on the perimeter shooting. That's about the only thing I don't like about his game. Yes, he can get lost and beat on defense on occasion, but the 3-point grenades are highly preventable.

I like the Jake, the Garbage Man, and I mean that in a sincere way. He is great at rebounding and scoring at the basket off quick passes.
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

I guess I get a little upset with this type of thread when the Shockers are 18-2 and in 1st place in the Valley, during what most outsiders consider a "rebuilding" year. Even those here, probably didn't expect these results.

Yeh, maybe we're big enough and bad enough for someone to say a sophmore needs to "be ready to rock or.....ship off". I mean in the previous 5 Valley games before MSU Jake was only averaging about 15 minutes a game, his 2 pt FGs was only 14-18 (.777), averaged only 5 rebounds and 5.8 ppg. He needs to do more in those 15 minutes than to be 3rd on the team in rebounding in Valley games. He's a whole 1 rpg less than our athletically gifted 7 foot 5th year senior in 2/3s the minutes in Valley play. I never will figure out why he keeps diving on the floor, grabbing loose balls

Yeh, I guess this is the time and place for this thread and "ship off" comments.

Plus 1. These young men bust their butts in practice, in the weight room, in the classroom, they represent WSU quite well. To have to put up with this kind of criticism from the "loyal" fanbase is just crap. They all have my respect good game or bad. "I'm out there busting my buns every night. +1

"Garbage Man" is the exact term that I used to describe Jake to Señora Rio. He seems to have a knack for latching onto loose balls in a scrum or grabbing a rebound in a scrum and putting in back in. He will be among the trees and somehow manages a tough rebound. He has surprising effectiveness in the deep paint.

I've noticed that when Jake grabs a rebound, someone is likely to get an elbow as he turns. Sometimes its his own teammate. He's like Ray Nitschke on rebounding.

Jake is valuable in certain matchups and struggles in others, just like many of our guys. Against UNI he looks good because he's playing against similar players. I like his hustle and rebounding. In another year he will be that much better.

Sorry brother, the day of Shocker fans hanging their hat on being proud that we have a team you would gladly have over for dinner is long gone. We have a coach that demands performance or your position will be filled (in the nicest way possible of course). You don't get a top 25 program by being permanently supportive of kids that don't get it at the Division 1 level. There are plenty of recruits out there that do. Since HCGM has been here, there have been at least a half dozen players that have been helped to find new schools. HCGM expects everybody from the star of the team to the last guy on the bench to be able to produce when called upon. I'm not saying that Jake needs to think about a new school, I'm just saying that he surely is aware the possibility of needing to transfer is there if he doesn't shore up the mental mistakes that he continues to commit. Wiggins is in the same boat in regards to tightening up the ol' coconut, but with his offensive ceiling at 3x the level of Jake's, I'm sure he gets just a wee bit more wiggle room (Wiggins gets wiggle room.. lol).

And before anybody thinks in their mind that I don't like Jake because he's white.... I watched Purdue and Michigan play last night and there were several very fast, very athletic, and very aggressive white players on those teams that I would have died to have. The first person I thought of when I saw them playing was Jake White and his penchant for looking lost, unmotivated, and unaggressive at times. If you are going to play for HCGM and not stand out like a sore thumb, you need to have a killer attitude. I think just about every player on our team carries that attitude except for Jake. I see killer oozing from Beast, Malcolm, DWill, Early, Tekele, and EO. It's getting hard to remember but I think Wessel and Baker oozed some killer as well. I can't comment on Lufile because I never see the poor fella.

I'm not sure how accurate or wise it is to compare Jake to past players who transferred due to playing time/scholastics/attitude/etc like Kenny Manigault or Jerome Hamilton or etc.

I also don't think the time has passed that we should be proud to have guys on the team who "you would like to have over for dinner" or whatever the term was.

I do think the time has passed that we have to worry about how much production we are getting from a sophomore. The best teams have guys like Jake who grow up in the system, play all four years and eventually blossom. I believe Jake is that type of player.

I don't just want ballplayers "you would love to have over for dinner", I want winners you would love to have over for dinner. That's my point.

Of course I am old enough to remember the days when Cold was asserting that Graham Hatch didn't have enough athleticism to play for the Shocks and that we would be in big trouble if we ever had to rely on him starting games for us. So I take all this with a grain of salt. . .

Jake didn't have his best game at MSU. Neither did EO. Jake did play very well with CH out of action. He had some great games.....and he's only a sophmore

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that it will be a very proud day when Jake graduates from WSU. He may surpass DWill's recent accomplishments.

i appreciated his effort in the creighton game. he seemed to want a victory in the worst way- an important part of that win imo.

Jake does the little things. He might not be the most athletic, but he does get things done that are needed.
