I missed seeing the game last night, but what was the reason EO played only 7 minutes. Is he hurt again?

I thought from past things I heard on here that EO would be going ape-sh*t playing undersized 2nd division Valley teams.

From what I've seen, Marshall tries to put out a line-up close to what he'll be facing instead of going with the tallest possible line-up. Against true centers, EO gets a lot of time. Against 4 guard set-ups, he seems to sit a lot more. The exception is SIU, which is so critically undersized that you almost have to abuse that advantage.

Also, Marshall is still trying to figure out the balance between Hall, Early, and EO.

GM recruited Jake, turns out he is may not be as good as advertised or in the immortal words of Dennis Green, he is who we thought he was, so be it. Look at Gonzaga's Kelly Olynyk, he averaged only 3.8 and 5.8 PPG his freshman and sophomore years. All of a sudden he's blowing up his junior year and one of the best players in the land. I'm not saying Jake is going to produce like Kelly is now, but perhaps if we exercise some more patience in him, he may become the player we all want him to be.

Thanks @CBB_Fan:, but I did kind of know the situation.

I guess I get a little upset with this type of thread when the Shockers are 18-2 and in 1st place in the Valley, during what most outsiders consider a "rebuilding" year. Even those here, probably didn't expect these results.

Yeh, maybe we're big enough and bad enough for someone to say a sophmore needs to "be ready to rock or.....ship off". I mean in the previous 5 Valley games before MSU Jake was only averaging about 15 minutes a game, his 2 pt FGs was only 14-18 (.777), averaged only 5 rebounds and 5.8 ppg. He needs to do more in those 15 minutes than to be 3rd on the team in rebounding in Valley games. He's a whole 1 rpg less than our athletically gifted 7 foot 5th year senior in 2/3s the minutes in Valley play. I never will figure out why he keeps diving on the floor, grabbing loose balls

Yeh, I guess this is the time and place for this thread and "ship off" comments.

I am betting that Jake will be the most improved player on the roster next year.

I think sometimes it is hard for a player to break out of a slump in Coach Marshall's system when self-confidence is a factor. You make a mistake or two and get pulled quickly because we have a very, very deep bench filled with serviceable alternatives. This seemed to plague Stutz for most of our NIT championship season when we were equally deep but less talented than this season.

Sorry, I didn't realize that it was a serious comparison.

I guess I just completely disagree with your post.

For what its worth I think Thurman could easily develop into a Cleanthony Early type player. In fact several of his threes were early like (Pick and Pop like situations).

I think is being, what do you call it? Oh yeah, COACHED. He cant shoot, and tries to do what he can, which is rebound pretty well and get put backs. Sort of what we need. As I said, aside from the threes, he's doing good.

This isn't 1994 where he would be relied upon to do everything.

Mr. White was shooting 3's like a rock star in the summer when I was present. I like his rebounding, the charges into him he should get on D. but don't, and feel he will just get better. If you don't understand that statement, Kung Wu describes it in detail in a way that we will never forget it. Splain Kung Wu, splain!!!

Interesting reference to Olynyk, KC -- you never know when some guys are going to start clicking. Maybe Jake needs to spend more time in the gym shooting and less time getting his hair cut.

Marshall is unusually honest. On his post game interview he said that Jake hits the 3 ball shot in practice. He followed by saying that he was asking him to work his offense closer to the basket for a while before he tries to go outside again.
