  • The biggest issue will be teaching the system to all the new guys. Mills has gone on record that he had to throw out the playbook last year because our guys couldn't figure it out. What's to say this new group of guys will figure it out? In that case, the returners have the inside lane to start the season.

    • Any starting lineup where Bell appears in is not gonna condone a lot of winning.

He and to a lesser extent Beverly had their chances last year getting an endless supply of minutes and failed rather bigly. Unless their approaches and mindsets have been changed, they should be delegated to mop-up minutes.
      Deuces Valley.
      ... No really, deuces.

I like Bell as a scoring option off the bench, especially since he provides a different skillset from presumed-starter McGinnis, but agree that him playing a lot of minutes likely isn't conducive to winning.

        • Beverly did lead the team in assists last year and if he had a few more makers around him he probably would have had a couple more per game and could also finish at the rim at a higher rate.

Did he bring back the playbook at all in the year? I hadn’t heard this. If none of the team could figure it out, do we expect them to suddenly know it now? After a whole ass year? I guess that’s just concerning to hear and I’m not sure if our team was just that dumb (which at times seemed like they were) or if that’s mills

He also led the team in TOs while having an assist to TO rate of 1.19 to 1. Bell was second in TO's and had a 1 to 1 A/T.

Go watch the tape man. Like really I recommend it, my excitement is up 10 fold. These guys are all dawgs that belong in this uniform.
Brummett throws, STRUCK HIM OUT! THE SHOCKERS ARE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! AN UNBELIEVABLE STORY!

You mean like a highlight tape? Mostly in lesser leagues. Listen, I'm cautiously optimistic but spare me the bs. When was the last time a stud transferred into the program?

That is correct, he owns all his TO’s. My point is he will improve on assists with an upgrade in talent.

I also believe we will see more of the HB that was quite good his last six games. 3/2 A/ T 50%fg 44% 3’s.

                        • Last Season the Shocks lost 3 Conference games by 4 or less and an overtime game. With 7 experienced Seniors, I'm hoping these close ones go our way in 2024-25.

Stud status is reserved for all conference players. Maybe he gets there this season. Frankamp fits the definition.

                              • At this time last year, Pohto and Bell were the only 2 guys on the team who had played in a game together. I hoped Rogers could be good, but didn’t expect anything at all out of Ballard who had been hurt most of the year and Bell had had a miserable season. The only transfer coming in with good numbers was Germany. Beverly, Cortes and DeGray were coming from major conference schools where they were minor role players. Ridgnal played sporadically at Missouri State. Cortes wasn’t even practicing and DeGray was expected to sit out. Compared to what I was expecting, I think the players and coaches did very well when you consider the starting point.

This year WSU has 5 rotation players coming back who played 120 minutes per game who averaged 40 points, 23.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists. I think it is a positive to have experience returning at each position. It should make it easier to blend the new players in. If the returners can improve in small ways across the board, it will make the team much better.

The new players are all experienced players who have played a lot of minutes. Washington and McGinnis are stepping up to a higher level of competition. Hill should be able to step right in with his reported ability to defend and take care of the ball, but I think Cortes is going to pick up where he left off and be a big contributor this year. Maybe we could actually have 2 point guards on the floor at the same time. McGinnis has been a better shooter than Bell and Beverly, but they are better rebounders and play makers. McGinnis average .9 assists and 1.3 turnovers last year. The good thing is he doesn’t turn it over much considering that he played 30 minutes per game. If he can make shots and keep the ball moving, I can live with that. Meeks needs to shake off the rust and jump right in too. WSU needs his 3 point shooting and to do what he did at San Francisco. If Washington can continue his steady improvement and adjust to playing against more size and athleticism than he did on a game to game basis at St. Peter’s, he could raise WSU’s ceiling greatly. He doesn’t need to average 16 a game like he did last year, but double figures and 6 or 7 rebounds would be nice.
