Many if not most here aren't old enough to remember Claudius Johnson. He was a man child freshman back in 89....a more physically put together athlete you would rarely see. He was young, maybe just turning 18 during his freshman season...anyway it was around Christmas break and I happened to be in the same place as he was and he used the pay phone near us (pay phones, for you young'ns, was what we used before you could afford a land line around 23-24 if you were lucky and hard working) to call home. Here's this 6'7" stud athlete...calling his mom...literally crying to go home...homesick. It's not easy for everyone (although no doubt it's easier today than it was there) to be away. This was a sad young man who missed his family. He stuck it out and graduated (I have no idea where he is today) and I applaud him, but it can be tough on these kids.

That young man was built like a truck. I remember him going against a similar type built guy for Oklahoma St who later went league. Name escapes me now but I think CJ held his own on him in that game. I think. Its been a minute....

This may be too personal, but my son was diagnosed with dyslexia, but with a high IQ. We had to take him out of a Christian school in elementary. Good environment for regular kids, but at that time they did not have the resources or skills to guide him. In public school he was labeled special education because he needed extra help decoding. Short term memory is another symptom of dyslexia. We insisted on him meeting the same academic standards as everyone else, but with instructional accommodations.

Those experiences did not instill a high degree of academic confidence. But persistence and encouragement goes a long way.

At 37 he has 2 degrees and a 6 figure income as an insurance underwriter for high end unique properties that other companies won't insure.

I know these stories could go on and on. I have a daughter that dorm life didn't agree with first semester at WSU. No sleep. It was worse than academic probation, she was all but flunked out.

Special meeting and WSU agreed to let her move out of dorms. She had I think two B's , the rest A's until she graduated from WSU with honors. Forever in debt to the man that granted the exception.

1st Semester is frequently a challenge for parents and students alike.

Claudius is actually a social worker in New York state. I believe he still has friends in the area.

I just listened to Monday night’s coaches show. PM explains things very well and doesn’t hesitate to share his insights. Very good listen.

Will PM be closer to Gregg Marshall or Scott Thompson when his chapter is written? Stay tuned to As Wu Turns to find out.

Although crusty, my old crystal balls say GM... I definitely see some similarities. If nothing else, PM and GM both have 'charisma'. I'm buying stock in PM; he appears to know what he's doing, and I have confidence in his abilities even in the era of the transfer portal, NIL, etc. I had a conversation with him last summer and came away impressed. He has a plan. I'm also very impressed with his selection of assistant coaches. One former NBA player and others with high-level college experience.

7:00 pm tonight. I’m sure MK will be asking some riveting, tough questions. (That’s another BA sarcasm comment).

I realize this is an unpopular opinion but this is exactly why I've been lukewarm on the legend. I mean I don't dislike him to the point I want him replaced, and I respect his commitment and knowledge...but I just see him as a PR company mouthpiece who at times has been condescending to the fanbase when too many questions are posed.

Not really going to argue about that at all. I enjoy his passion, WSU history, and it wouldn’t be the same not hearing his voice on the radio for WSU games.

However, he and especially Bob, have the best jobs in America. Talk about the quintessential “retirement” type of gig. I’m sure there is a lot to it. But I’d take their gig in a NY minute…get to fly straight to away games, nice hotel, dinner on the company (most likely), see some sights along the way. Nice perks. (Not that MK doesn’t deserve it…just an incredible gig).

I suppose if MK was a traditional journalist this is fair. But please give me one instance of a team's play-by-play person (pro or college, of any sport) that asks tough questions on a coaches show.
