    So WSU shouldn't even try?

Due to this incident, that's not longer his market value. School that can afford that are few and they're not taking the chance on him until he coaches elsewhere for a few years and shows that he can stay out of trouble and still recruit and win at a high level to justify paying him that level of money again.

If he's waiting for a similar contract and won't coach again until he gets one, he'll never coach again. Beard isn't a dumb man. If he were to come here and have success, he'd only be here for a couple of years before someone is going to throw crazy stupid money at him again. So his options are essentially to take a pay cut and show he still has it, before raking in the money again, or sit around and do nothing and make nothing.

I believe his contract at UT is void as I think the stipulation was something about if he ever got arrested or charged with a felony he could be fired for cause. It didn't matter if he was found guilty or taken to trial or whatever. So he's not making all of that money. Was this year two at Texas? That would mean who only got about a year and half of that contract, which I'm sure had escalating pay based on years which would mean he only got around $7M of the deal? Not that $7M is nothing, but it's sure as hell not $35M.

He'll eventually return to the sidelines but I'd wager he'll sit out a year or two, which may or may not align with our timeline.

Let's pray our "timeline" isn't "a year or two" away...

If it's not then I doubt Beard is available.

Hypothetically, if you told me we'd be in the Beard market but have to wait, I'd happily take another season of IBall.

IF he were to file lawsuit to get paid that contract by proving he was let go without cause, where would that money come from?

IF he were to win it, after spending all that money on attorney fees (UT has some great lawyers who would pass the case around pro bono for years).

Coach Beard will coach somewhere if not next year by the year after, why not here?
Beard was in breach of his employment contract when he got charged with a felony. I'm doubtful a lawsuit for wrongful dismissal would prove fruitful (and would probably delay opportunities at other schools).

In what world would what Beard, in all probability, did be lesser than 3G was accused of? Felony DV is about as bad as it gets short of murder or rape. No way he happens. Like I said bring back our legendary dude if we’ve decided public image doesn’t matter.

GTFO or I’m buying my own 3G billboard.

If i read it right .. just being charged with a felony breached the contract. Being convicted is irrelevant from a contractual standpoint. That's how the contract he agreed to was worded.

                      • Rick Pitino did far less than Beard and winds up at Iona. No major program is going to touch Beard for a while.

Pitino is 70 something. Forget him. Beard is much younger. The way the media railroaded Gregg, I'm not sure that the same isn't happening with Beard. Give him a year off, and I wonder what may happen.

I'm not sure exactly what Texas had on Beard, but I don't trust the media, and Texas may have felt that he didn't fit in. After all, Texas is pretty "holy" in their minds.
