The question is did the AD even do a search? That's the question I have. Marshall resigned in November 2020. IB was named interim head coach. But since he had no head coaching experience, a coaching search should have been done and a proven head coach hired. Instead what seems to have happened is the AD just let IB coach the team for the entire season, then because the team did well, he gave him the job and a huge contract.

    • Some familiar faces are missing. Did the Chickens play at the same time as the Shocks?

Would have been pretty hard to recruit/hire a quality coach 2 weeks before a season began since quality coaches would have already been coaching and were readying their own team. There aren't many coaches (if any) who would leave their team to go to another school two weeks before a season began.

        • Not sure in today’s college sports environment that it will matter who the coach is. Schools like ours will struggle to retain good players for multiple seasons. Seasons like this will become the rule rather than the exception.

          • Well, our top 40 defense just gave up 79 points to ECU at home. We are in last place in the conference at 0 and 2. We haven't played the tougher teams yet. We are 7-7 and have little chance to end up the season .500 or above. Isaac Brown should resign. He is in over his head and if he really cares about the team and players he should do the right thing and quit. This team needs leadership and he isn't it.

No, IB is the interim coach. We search throughout the season and make the hire in the spring.

I believe that if a serious search had started early, one or two things would have happened.

                1) An experienced coach would have been hired during the season or started at the end of the season, depending on the timing of hire.

                2) If the AD had some serious interest, he could have approach IB with the correct type of back ended contract to save WSU dollars while paying off GM.
If Brown didn't go for it, hire an experienced coach fully knowing that WSU could say they offered him a good contract for an inexperienced head coach, and he turned it down.

Given that apparently didn't happen, there would have been a lot of "social" noise had Boatwrong not hired him after the season was over.

Even then, it's the type of contract IB was offered that I totally objected to and now we're paying for it one way or another.

No reasonable person would resign and give up 4 million dollars. Anyone on here that says they would is freaking liar. We will have to come up with the money to fire him.

Not starting a search at all the moment a separation agreement was being negotiated was the first mistake. Unlikely to get a sitting head coach but possible. There were also coaches that weren't coaching CBB that were apparently interested.

By the time it got to the end of the year and we won the AAC and HCIB won the COY award ... WSU was backed into a corner. Second mistake was giving HCIB such a generous contract with a poor buy out clause for a first time head coach.

You can't talk about our president like that, it's unpatriotic.......ooops, thought your IB meant ignorant Biden. Sorry, carry on.

While you may be right about the 4 million, The heat may be softening him to a buy out negotiation for less.

Absolutely. WSU will probably continue to lag behind (further) in this "new normal" world of college basketball/football. These days a player can transfer, play right away, to the tune of, oh, say 45,000$ Wichita State has failed miserably in that department and maybe never really could compete with that in the first place. What coach can come in to WSU and compete in that type of environment? Can't blame that on IB. Maybe we're already looking at the best players Wichita State can buy. Why would it be different going forward? The. Game. Has. Changed. Radically.

Does anyone know what RC4 got offered to play for the Hogs? Or Mo? Is that information public? It should be if it isn't (not that it would matter).

There is no HEAT. Nobody in the media is criticizing him. There are still people on social media defending him.

I have a slight retort for this. I will use the Kansas City Royals for an example. I hear a lot that it is just a shame that the Royals can't compete with the Yankees and Red Sox in the big money payroll department. While that's true, how can you explain not competing with the teams in their own division, none of whom really being perennial big-spenders?

I don't care that we can't compete with Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, etc? We were always going to struggle with that, even if Gregg took a swig from the Fountain of Youth and never aged. How in the actual **** are we a bottom-tier basketball program in this conference? We just lost to East Carolina. East. ****ing. Carolina. The Pirates haven't been to the NCAA Tournament in 30 years. Look at the list of conference mates that we will have next season. Other than Memphis, what program screams "big boy" to Wichita State fans? None. So why in the actual **** can't we hold our own against them?

Nor should he. IB is owed every dollar and he damn well better get it.
