If Yormark is really that high on Gonzaga to the Big 12 as a basketball-only member, I really hope that someone, somewhere in WSU's administration is at least making a pitch to him about bringing in WSU along with the Zags. It would keep the number of schools in the Big 12 at an even number and give Gonzaga a basketball-only partner school in the conference. Plus, Wichita would fit perfectly in the geographic footprint of the Big 12.

Two points I think are involved here.

1) If you mean Gonzaga to the B12 for only basketball, that can't happen. Schools can join conferences for football only, but basketball is lumped in with every other sport. Gonzaga would have an absolutely insane travel budget. They'd have to pay for all that travel while getting a partial revenue share.

2) SMU bought their way into the ACC. They essentially paid hundreds of millions of dollars to get into the ACC. Why on God's green earth would the ACC want to raid more AAC schools. Those additional schools would only dilute the revenue shares, and realignment isn't happening for the purpose of reducing revenue shares.

Gonzaga is being considered as a member for all Olympic sports.

ACC is likely only adding these AAC schools if they lose quite a few members. You are correct that adding schools like Memphis, USF, Tulane, etc. would likely dilute revenue sharing under the current model.

End of the day, regardless of what schools leave, the AAC is the best we can hope for. We can all dream about a P5 conference but it just isn’t happening. Even if more teams leave, it’s still better than the MVC.
