    • The post from the Oregon State fan supposedly “breaking” the news is from two days ago. If that is “breaking” news then it’s taking a very long while for literally anyone else in the media to catch on. In a time when stuff like this goes from rumor to confirmed story by respected media members in a couple of hours.

In this scenario, WSU, Tulsa, Charlotte and Navy split 220+ million in exit fees to rebuild the conference (plus UH/UC/UCF fees plus CFP and NCAA credits)

        • The only reliable info out there, IMO, is the friend of Oliver Luck saying that he only represents WSU and OSU, and any inference to the contrary is total misinformation. So the idea he's talking to Apple or negotiating a merger between the PAC and AAC is contrived by accounts looking for clicks and followers.

I've mostly been paying attention to the PAC/Big12/Big10. In the above scenario, which seems unlikely, what are the most likely destinations for WSU? Is the Big East a possibility?

            • There's no indication BE has ever been interested in WSU. If we were a Catholic/private/conf charter institution it might be different.

              • My feeling is much of this rhetoric is not misinformation but disinformation. Some of these ADs and their mouthpieces have studied the Soviet/Russian playbook. They probably have bot and troll farms set up in the Computer Science building basement all with the intended goal of making their school look the most desirable.

Temple over Tulsa and ECU over Charlotte doesn't make sense to me. Although, I don't think we will see this scenario, at least not as presented.

Here is an interesting perspective focusing on what is beyond the immediate horizon:

Pac-12 mailbag: WSU, Oregon State will have company when next realignment strikes

As college football roils, there are two givens: Another wave of realignment will hit the sport in the late 2020s or early 2030s; and other schools will experience fates similar to that which walloped Washington State and Oregon State.

If nothing else, the Pac-12 developments will accelerate challenges to the NCAA’s economic structure, leading to athletes being classified as employees and entitled to a share of the massive revenue.

Any argument that football players are mere student-athletes after the Los Angeles and Pacific Northwest schools chased the cash and joined the Big Ten seems farcical, at least from a legal standpoint.

Attorneys for plaintiffs challenging the NCAA’s amateurism model are “salivating,” according to an industry source. “How can the schools possibly argue against the (National Labor Relations Board) — that the players aren’t employees — after all this?”

Any form of revenue sharing with players will increase financial pressures on athletic departments, driving a push for more money at the upper echelon of the sport — and potentially a bifurcation within the power conferences.

In one corner: Schools with the means and motivation to participate in a mini-NFL.

In the other: Schools without the wherewithal and willpower.

We aren’t fully convinced the powerhouses in the Big Ten and SEC will expunge the second-tier football programs from their leagues when the next media contract cycle arrives. Certainly, there would be massive political pushback.

But when the Big Ten signs a multibillion-dollar deal in 2029, will Ohio State and Michigan agree to share revenue equally with Purdue and Rutgers?

Will Alabama and Georgia accept the same SEC distributions in the 2030s as Mississippi State and Vanderbilt?

Perhaps those leagues will adopt performance-based financial models, in which revenue distributions from the College Football Playoff and NCAA tournament are based on participation and success.

If he is indeed representing those two schools, and investigating their best possible outcome, wouldn't it be his responsibility to also look into mergers?

                        2024 P-5 Footprints (Pending PAC-4 Resolution)

A full PAC4-AAC merger would rival the Big 10 footprint except with nowhere close to the dollars to support it. Good luck keeping up.

Ironically, the SEC would end up with the smallest footprint but one of the biggest bank accounts.
