SMU did it before. Surprised it took them this long.

lmao, right? Heck, they might even be realizing a discount at $36k compared to those shady deals of old!

              • Since there is no note worthy announcements about our NIL/Armchair strategies collective I would assume the managers are playing it close to the vest or, it is abysmally poor

                • Someone needs to take this to court already so we can understand the boundaries. Right now there is just a massive gray area on this. What SMU (well their collective), IS pay to play. I think that's pretty clear. But is that enforceable. Also the fact that its only the male athletes that benefit could put it up against Title IX. Just so many unanswered questions of what is and isn't allowed here.

If this is the way to go .. we need to figure out how to compete. If they are giving 36k to all of their players .. seems reasonable that WSU's collective could find a way to come up with enough for 40-50k for the MBB team as a baseline with some extra to try to grab some really high profile athletes. 40k per player would be 520k for the MBB scholarship roster. It's a lot of money but seems doable if we are saying MBB is our sport to support at WSU (yes that doesn't give anything to baseball or softball or any others).

We have a big advantage over SMU and we need to take advantage of it. It only takes us 520k to pay 40k while it takes them 3.5 million to pay 35k because they have football. We should be able to outbid every school in the American that has football.

                        • I think Dan is meaning that they pour all available resources into anything not named football.

The NIL will have zero impact on Title IX because the schools aren't officially involved in allocation of funds.

And there are some female golfers and gymnasts and such that are also making bank off of NIL because they're smoking hot and there are businesses out there that see a lot of value in that.

"Officially" might be able to be challenged in court IMO. Any communication at all with the NIL collectives could be seen as involvement. You might be right .. just seems like a massive gray area here.
