The key to most that have left? They have been in situations where they have coaches who can develop their talent and they have grown as players. Don't see that at WSU. In fact, it seems to be where talent goes to die.

Are you saying we didn't have coaches who could develop their talent when Burton, Sherfield, Fernandes and others left the program?

I’m getting really confused with some of the narratives going on, or maybe I’m not reading things right.

didn’t they leave when Marshall was coach? First mass exodus? Not IB’s fault (unless it was because he contributed to lack of development)

Marshall was great at developing talent, but these last couple of years he was here, he kind of (imo) let his success get to his head. He wasn’t amazing toward the end, for whatever reason it was

        • There is no "narrative". The history speaks for itself.

Grant Sherfield transferred after 2019-20: Brown and Waterman were two assistants on those teams who worked with guards.

          Noah Fernandes: See Grant Sherfield

Dexter Dennis: Played two years under Brown with little to no positive offensive development. Two other years with Brown as the HC.

Ricky Council IV: Two years under Brown. Stagnant development at best at WSU. Looking like an all american at Arkansas.

          Jamarius Burton: See Grant Sherfield

          etc, etc, etc...

Please explain how he let success go to his head and things were any different then the previous years...

            • Perhaps 3G suffered the same fate as Turgeon. He was better when he had better assistants. Too much success and his assistants all get plucked away and he's left with the scraps (Brown).

Wait ... are we really trying to deflect ANY blame from 3G now and put it on IB for things that happened while 3G was coach. It's ok to admit 3G probably failed at a few things his last few years. He had more than enough good will built up from all the good he did before that. We don't have to act like everything was rosy and peachy up until the day he was fired/resigned.

No deflection here. But to completely exhonerate the current staff from any fault for kids leaving while they were on staff is not accurate either. GM certainly lost control of the team that year with TP (who frankly deserves most of the fault that year for the division and chaos). But aren't the assistants responsible for working with and developing players? Did you see any growth? Particularly those assistants who work with the guards? That is one of the primary roles of an assistant coach.

                  • no attempt to blame or anything....just a statement that 3G could bring in talent...but maybe the dynamic of Sherfeld led to other fizzures....

Not what Stickboy is saying at all. He's saying they both deserve blame. But he was speaking specifically to Marshall's tenure and not both tenures. You spoke to both and the only two people you put blame on were the assistants in the Marshall era.

Your point in your first post was that IB and Waterman deserved blame for players leaving when they were assistants and because they were assistants. Then, when IB became the head coach, he was the only one responsible.

                      They're both at fault.

                      • Most if not all of those players were freshmen when GS was here - TP was not a good team-mate

Hahahahaha... What in the hell is your point? Don't bother.

The decline started when 8 (or was it 9) players decided to transfer at once, after an NIT season, which came one year after losing to the lowly Thundering Herd. That's a flag at any program, regardless of conference. What next? Mo didn't improve under IB. Oh, wait...

Joe Pleasant started over RC the whole year. Let that sink in.
