The next game at Temple, Stevenson began a bad string of games, lost his starting position, and moped (his selfishness, and divisiveness was a huge problem) for the remainder of the year. He wasn't the only reason, but he was a big reason that the team didn't come together that year, even though we were still a top 15-40 team the entire year. He got his licks in on Marshall before he left. If he does that to Huggy Bear, I doubt he lasts the year. But Stevenson has a lot of extra lives.

With a Fred VV, we would have been fine, but we didn't have the leadership for our talent to flourish.
Didn’t coach Marshall force ES to apologize to UCONN following the game? I recall something like that. He embarrassed the program on national television and Marshall was pissed.

I think that's right. After that incident, Stevenson (and his Papa) became a Marshall antagonist for life. Now his personality, and lack of loyalty just seems natural.

      • What is Eric Stevenson's daddy saying on the WVU FB pages?

        • Sure doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement or somebody Huggy Bear wants on his team. The Process gonna Process though...just can't help himself.

WVU head coach Bob Huggins said on the postgame radio show that he was told Erik Stevenson’s gesture, that was warranted a technical foul, was directed towards current Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart.

Stevenson picked up his fourth foul at the time and fouled out just a minute later.

“Erik gets incredibly stupid again, basically costs us the game. Can’t happen again. Just cannot happen again,” Huggins said to Tony Caridi. “I love the kid, I do. I wish him nothing but the best but he hurts our team when he does that.”
"It's a huge change. I can't say it's not. It's a huge change. He knows better," said WVU head coach Bob Huggins. "Kenyon Martin was a fiery guy. Kenyon Martin didn't do stupid things to get technicals and hurt his team. But he was a fiery guy. Pete Michael was a fiery guy. I've had a lot of fiery guys. But I haven't had any that hurt their teammates. That's not right."

“I know for sure the next time it happens, he will no longer be a Mountaineer.”

This is not Stevenson's first incident this year. Or the second. Or the third. Or the fourth. He's had multiple technical fouls this season, and twice has had to be escorted off the court by an assistant coach at the conclusion of the game. It's been addressed multiple times. And now, apparently, he's on his last chance."

              • Prediction: Huggy Bear is going to lose 1/2 of his team after their near top-25 ranking comes crashing down and they barely squeak into the NCAA tournament and lose first round.

Nobody will be able to explain what happened.

                Except Shockernet.

only difference is Erik has run his eligibility bone dry. He doesn't have any leverage left whatsoever.

I never rule out him getting ANOTHER waiver.

Reminds me of one of my favorite moments during the one year I helped coach a middle school team. We had a tall kid with good athleticism and potential but struggled to get him to play like a big kid (strong). Anyway, his father was very (overly) involved and put a ton of pressure on the kid. During a timeout, we're all huddled up and this kid is looking across the court at his dad who was probably yelling something at him, and the head coach snapped at him and said if your dad knows why you can't make a layup, you have him come over here and tell me. Or something very similar to that.

I believe we had fewer problems with getting him to focus after that and I was trying not to laugh. It was quick and honest and his dad was definitely doing more harm than good.

Has nothing to do with the actual discussion, but it sparked a memory that still to this day makes me smile. I do know one of his teammates from that year posts here.

                              • Marshall penalized for not kicking Shaq or TP to the curb when he had every right to.
