IMO a public university in flyover country doesn't appeal to a collection of primarily Catholic east coast institutions. Athletics isn't necessarily the be all end all with these institutions. The Catholic/private/east coast mentality is real. It's the reverse of Pac having no interest in Baylor, TCU or BYU.

While I understand the fact that the Pac doesn't want to add a religious school, there are a TON of TCU alumni and parents of kids who attend TCU on the west coast and in SoCal in particular.

The PAC will not add any schools from states that do not toe the political lines. The California schools are prohibited to traveling to any state on the California "Banned Travel List" - that is 17 states including.

I don’t deny that.

My point was, when the BE schools broke off, they were/wanted to be all private. Jesuit universities (Butler being they only exception to the later credential).

Neither of these apply to UCONN. So, stands to reason, that being Private and/or Jesuit is no longer required for entry.

Curious why then did you bring up UCLA clout?

Based on the California exclusion law you mention and factoring in the current environment of conference realignment strategy, I don’t believe that 2 public PAC12 colleges in California will have the clout or influence to dictate the final exclusion of any school the PAC12 wishes to invite. Perhaps they can, but I imagine the “law” could quickly be amended to take care of that little wrinkle.
