Ridiculous statement. There are plenty of "true Shocker fans" on here that have been fans long before anyone had even heard of the Marshalls.

That situation ended up with the team winning a conference regular-season championship with a top-20 team in second place. If that had happened at any other school, we'd be amazed at how that brand new head coach could pull that off.

There's a lot of regret (and some grieving and frustration) that Marshall is gone, but IB has earned some serious respect. Marshall prepared IB to be ready to take over a HC job. IB demonstrated he was ready to do that and able to do that.

There's still some concern about IB's ability to recruit. He doesn't have the rep that Marshall had. Compared to where IB's recruiting capability was 2 months ago, it just went through the roof.
While I agree in principle and it truly is an outstanding outcome, players play. Tyson and AG are bad mofos and we would have finished better than 7th in conference even if I was on the sidelines screwing things up.

      In other words... Steve Fisher.

And as much as I love Marshall - check my post history if you don't believe me - there ain't no way he was "preparing" IB for a head coaching job. IB prepared himself, let's give him credit.

and pretty much a stretch to “ kick his family”... liked coach Marshall a lot!
You didn’t like Kellen because he was too happy when we won. Ok.

        • I’m guessing IB takes our recruiting to another level. Just wait and see what kind of athletes want to play for him.

I did a poor job on my original post, so I will try to do better, but I’m not sure you will grasp it fully because you will SOMEHOW see it as an attack on Gregg which I said before is false because I liked him A LOT as a coach and was against firing him.
I kind of subscribe to the mindset of not making yourself bigger than you are in those situations... he was a grad assistant .... I can’t imagine an assistant coaches’ son ever being as noticeable as Kellen was... he was usually more noticeable than the assistants themselves! I KNOW he is a nice kid and he has been a great supporter IN SPITE of what happened to his dad. Just my thoughts.

Qualifier: I like GGG and I like Kellen.

I thought you were being somewhat kind molly jabali . There were a few times he looked like a Mini-Me Marshall with players as the game was go on.

Kellen was a huge Shocker fan who grew up with players who were his idols at his house. You simply don’t realize how much of a real fan he was. Just ask Garrett Stutz who is still a huge WSU Shocker supporter and a big friend of Kellen’s.

Yes, I agree. However, I have no idea what that has to do with certain actions as a grad assistant during a game. I never saw Simon do such and I'm sure he's a huge Shocker fan as well. We're not being anti-Kellen in the least bit.

Never forget to story of Stutz playing pop-shot basketball with Kellen.

I forget the full details, but basically Kellen was having a great time and was wanting to keep playing and Stutz basically said how about we do it more often when I come to school here. (IIRC)

Yes he wears his emotions on his sleeve like his dad. He loves his dad. He has watched him his whole life. He probably has a lot of his dad in him. From families close to the Marshall’s, Kellen is a great guy and a fine young man at this time.

It mentions in the first paragraph that the LOI will be incorporated into an employment agreement at a later date. It states the term of employment will run from May 1, 2021, to April 30, 2026. Coach Brown will receive one million the first two years, 1.25 million in years three and four, and 1.5 million in year five.

The LOI doesn't include any incentive payments - that will probably show up in the formal employment agreement later on. It does have the amounts if he's fired without cause in section 13 of the LOI. How much varies depending on the year of employment - if it happens in years 1-3, he gets whatever remains on his contract still. If it happens in years 4-5, he gets half of whatever remains. Compensation is reduced if he takes another job. Section 14 covers what happens if he terminates the contract, which he can only do in years 4-5. If he quits in year 4, he owes half of his remaining pay, and if he quits in year 5, he owes 25% of his remaining pay.

The last two pages outline his duties as head coach.

Wichita State's Isaac Brown has been named a finalist for the 2021 Ben Jobe Award, presented annually by CollegeInsider.com to Division I's top minority head coach.

Coach Jobe is an icon in the history of basketball at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. He is best known as the head coach of the Southern University, a position he held for 12 seasons. He was also head coach at Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Talladega, Tuskegee and South Carolina State. His record at Southern was 209-141 and included four NCAA Tournament appearances. He also coached the Jaguars to one NIT appearance, five SIAC championships, 11 SWAC titles and two NAIA Tournament Championships. Perhaps his most memorable moment as a coach was leading No. 15 seed Southern to a 93-78 win over No. 2 Georgia Tech in the first round of the 1993 NCAA Tournament. It stands as one of the great upsets in the history of the event.

The recipient of the 2021 award will be announced on April 1.

Didn't he coach Southern in the Round House for the first round of the tournament against the hometown Shocks in 1981?

If it was an end of year tournament Coach Jobe was an assistant with the Denver Nuggets. If it was a preseason tournament the next fall he was an assistant at Georgia Tech. He was at Southern from 1986-1996 and again from 2001-2003.
