It wasn’t Jimmy and Joe that beat WSU in the final four, and the Kentucky game was not won on athleticism alone. Iirc, Fred had a chance to put it away.

You're not talking about one of the best college basketball games ever played, Would it?

        • Just finished listening to the show. Good show. Coach Brown was excited about the prospect of being able to practice 5 on 5 this week. The lack of bodies hurt the preparation on transition guarding as he noted that we were't very good against Mizzou. Points of emphasis were AG to be leading the team in assists and believes this will become better with more practice and familiarity with his team mates. Better positioning and boxing out on the inside. He says he wants to see TE shoot whenever he is open he is a game changer. Excited to see Craig Porter back. feels he will be the most noticeable addition. Better guarding and defending is on the short list of needing improving going forward. Likes the way the coaching staff is coming together and working well together. Good show and I thought Coach Brown did a really good job on everything MK talked about or asked him about. Go Shocks

No mention of Jo B. I wonder if he will be able to play on Saturday.

            • Yeah, I noticed that too about Jo B. You hear absolutely nothing about him except here on Shockernet where everyone seems to be pinning all of our inside hopes on him, based on just a small glimpse from an exhibition game a year ago. On the Mizzou pregame show Mike Kennedy was just getting ready to explain why Jo B is such an enigma, then we of course had the famous “technical difficulties”. I really would have liked to have heard that discussion. And it would be kind of nice to hear an explanation of why we have technical difficulties every broadcast too!

It’s not just from the exhibition. Marshall was VERY high on him and wanted him playing last year but JoB wanted the redshirt.

                I’m getting Mantas Griskanas vibes.

                • I haven’t listened again, but Brown talked on his show about how they have to phase in the players who have been in quarantine. 15 minutes first practice, 30 minutes 2nd and 45 minutes the 3rd before they can fully practice. If this applies to both the positive cases and the close contacts, this is ridiculous. We don’t even know if the + cases had symptoms. Hopefully, they can work out on their own outside of official practice. I remember Brown saying that Council could only work out 15 minutes during the Saturday practice.
If I was the age of the players, I would be going nuts over this. Lock me up for 2 weeks and then say I can’t do what I want after the two weeks is over and especially if I never tested + to begin with.

                  • I know most of us don't like Mo taking those 3's, but in the show, IB said as long as he's wide open, he doesn't have any problems with him taking the 3's.

I think they have to take EKGs and stuff .. Their biggest concern is myocarditis. Whether that's a founded concern is a different story, but that's why they have the phased approach. Don't need a player that hasn't done anything for 2 weeks having heart failure.

                        • Listened to the coaches show...

-Mike made the point we’ve shot more free throws per game so far this year. Brown said he wants his guys attacking off the dribble and cuts rather than just passing the ball around the perimeter. I’ve seen enough of that for a lifetime the last two years. This is one of the biggest improvements so far with this new group of players. They have the ability and willingness to attack the defense off the bounce and in transition.
-He said transition defense probably 100 times so I’m confident they are aware of that issue and trying to fix it. He thought getting all the players back would help them work on it in practice
-Someone just posted this but he said he doesn’t mind Mo taking one three per game if he’s stationary and wide open. I know last year missed free throws were the same as turnovers so maybe this year missed threes will be the same as an assist?
-He did mention that Bilaut is a good FT shooter.

I don't inherently hate him shooting an open three, I just hate him taking it within the first 10 seconds of the shot clock. And I'm pretty sure all of his attempts so far have been really early in possessions.

I hate him taking wide open stationary threes until he can make wide open stationary free throws.

I think we’ve heard more about him than Jenkins, Seymour, and Council (at least until he played on Sun).

There were glowing practice reports about him last year. He really was impressive (to me anyway) in the limited amount I saw him at Shocker Madness and the exhibition game last year.

Brown talked about Porter as a guy who will be an immediate difference maker but Mike also prompted him by asking about Porter specifically. Mike hasn’t yet asked point blank about Bilaut. It’s anyone’s guess as to why that is but he also didn’t really ask about Jenkins or Seymour either so maybe it’s just a covid thing, I don’t know.

I am not counting on him to be a savior. He doesn’t need to be to make the team better or even for them to be successful. I’m just interested to see where he is after the few tantalizing glimpses we got last year, especially on defense and the boards.

Hopefully he’ll suit up Saturday and we’ll learn a little more.
