I have a hard time pinning tonight's loss (barring a miracle) on the pitching staff, Clint Maune or no.
Unfortunately, it will never happen...but it would be nice to replace JT after the season, he simply can not cut it.
Bottomline is the bullpen gave up 4 runs in 6.3 innings (5.71 ERA) - your just not going to win many games with that kind of performance.
Of course when you have a #3 and #4 hitters going a combined 0-10 with 7 K's it just is pathetic and your not going to win many games.
This game is on the upperclassmen hitter and lack of any leadership, on the bullpen and on the coaching staff that made some moves that makes you wonder whether the game "has passed them by" as Gene is so fond of saying.
Sexton needs to can JT (and Pooch while he's at it) after the season. Surely a program as proud and tradition rich as ours can attract a more qualified hitting coach.

I really doubt that Sexton has any pull on who the hitting coach is. For those who want JT gone - it is not going to happen until Gene retires.
And to be fair - the blame is just as much on the players and their approach. Players refuse to bunt (or work on their bunting skills). They refuse to choke up and cut down on their swings when they get two strikes. Players have in the past refused to quit swinging for the fences. There is alot of selfishness.
The pitching staff can't carry the hitters like they have for the last decade. It was bound to happen sooner or later, the problem is with this programs inability to recruit or develop hitters for a long long time, with the offense it isn't a aboration, it is a pattern and I'm sick of it.

Well, the program has an additional problem now that they can't recruit enough pitchers. This is 2 years now that WSU pitching staff lacks depth and there is no closer.

Well said, SB. A lot more selfishness than intelligence on display at this point.
