We are asking a lot out of this team for tomorrow's game. We are all conceding that Capra is the key. However, he has struggled as of late and FSU is the worst possible team to ask him to get right. If he can go 6 or 7 innings that will be awesome, however, as SB points out, that does not seem likely.
FSU works the count and has been successful in getting Musgrave and Shafer to get their pitch count high. Add in Capra's 'wildness' of late, FSU is only going to make matters worse for him.
With that in mind, we are then placing a lot of pressure on the offense to keep up with FSU. Our hitters are not as good as theirs and that is asking a lot from them. Gene said it himself that if we try to go toe-to-toe with FSU in hitting we will lose.
I also believe the heat is draining these guys - this was the first game in the last 10 where it did not appear the guys were relaxed and having fun. Going up against FSU plays a part in that, but those long innings today killed the guys.
SB eluded to it a couple of pages back. We have to play perfect tomorrow in order to win. What are the odds that will happen? We have to get out in front early and by a lot of runs to get the momentum back, I just don't see that happening.
ladies and gentlemen we have a Lou Holtz sighting! I don't buy it for a second.
Good luck tomorrow gents.......but not too much luck.
As it was spread around on here and the FSU fan board that A.S. was our "Ace," (oh how they must still be laughing), I can only hope that all of the lack of confidence in Capra on this board thus far proves to be equally ironic. That remains my wish.....

If Capra starts off from where he left off the other day, he should be fine.
Granted, this is probably the biggest challenge he is to experience today in his baseball life.
AS was just not 'tuned in'. He was all over the place, bad outing and bad day for him on a day that we needed his best from him.
I also think we will do better with a lefty, than a righty with this team. Lefties has more of a crossover motion in their pitching styles which allows them to hit the corners of the plate a little better, IMO. We saw that some with Musgrave's performance.
Let me ask you something, given Musgraves and Shaefer's performances the last 2 days, which rounds would they now be drafted?

I'd still say pretty high. They have a lot of movement on their pitches and good velocity. I've never seen Buster look as confused as he has in a couple of at bats against you guys.
Keep your head up guys, today's a new day and if you get a starting pitching performance like you did Friday, who knows what can happen. You've got a tough team that has a lot of heart.
Surprisingly, I think we should have faith in our pen today. I know they've pitched a lot in the last couple of days, but they've been pretty darn solid (especially for playing FSU).
That being said, I still think Capra is key. He's got it in him.
I guess I'm like a few of you other dudes though... an optimist.
You know what this team could really use? A no-hitter.
It's a Sunday. God likes baseball. Maybe God'll take a day off from listening to dusty preachers, toss on some black and gold, spend a nice day in the Florida sunshine, and grant us a no-hitter.

Capra has a great fastball that seems to get on hitters quicker than the radar gun would indicate, but nobody can live off their fastball, and THAT has been Capra's problem. He hasn't had an off-speed pitch he could go to 2-0 or 3-2. If he has has a change-up today, he might be able to keep this game from getting out of hand.
Anthony Capra has been good for 3 years, but his lack of success in his last 6 outings is "worrisome" to put it diplomatically. I know nothing, but I think Capra should take a closer's mentality to the mound, and just go as long as he can, preferably at least 4 innings. We're going to need McKeever and Hoch and maybe someone else ALL to be on their game, and that's going to be difficult, but not impossible.
We are the underdogs today, NO question about it. We're facing one of the top 4 teams in the country, as proven over an entire season. We will need the gods to smile on us today, but we ARE capable.

If Capra throws a no-hitter. I'll get naked, strap on a thong, paint myself in FSU warpaint, and run around campus doing the tomohawk chop chant.

The entire roster needs the bulldog mentality they've shown more often than not this season. Starting in about 90 minutes and never letting go.
Difficult but not impossible as they ARE capable. So very well put db.

I'm going to church in less than an hour. What should I ask for? Or would that be part of the problem?
David made a point long after the LBS debacle that has stayed with me all year. I started thinking about it late Friday and then again all day on Saturday and, of course, by this morning, I'm pissed about it.
Chew on these numbers a bit:
Year to date:
WSU pitching 3.25 strikeouts walks ratio
FSU pitching 1.94 k/walks
WSU batting 1.44/1 k/bb
FSU batting .98/1 k/bb (unreal)
Super Regional
WSU pitching 1.23
FSU pitching 8.5
Now, there are a lot of factors. FSU plays a tougher schedule, but not as much as many are led to believe. FSU is rediculously patient. WSU did not compete very well yesterday. We are on the road, etc etc.
However, as David said a month or 2 ago, we're not that bad and they're not that good. I think everyone, most importantly our pitchers, have it in their head they have to be perfect to get a strike....and so does blue.
I want Anthony to throw smoke right down the pipe and if they hit it, so be it. I'm sick of these obscene differences between what happens every other day of the year and then when it counts.
Well I'm leaving with the family to run errands, get some lunch and stay away from the radio and TV.
You heard it here first folks: IF WE WIN TODAY, I'LL SHAVE MY ENTIRE BODY, GET NAKED, PUT ON A THONG, SING OUR SCHOOL'S ANTHEM, DO A LITTLE JIG, AND TAKE REQUESTS ALL THE WHILE RUNNING AROUND CAMPUS.
