I don't know about anybody else, Da, but for me it isn't a question of seeing. Frankly, I don't care what the intent of the steal was and can't imagine why you're so cranky about it, either -- except, of course, that you're just cranky, which is well established. Really, who the hell cares whether you lose 10-4 or 11-4? And why should we?

Besides, if Mike Martin is dumb enough and petty enough, as he seems to be, to subject one of his guys to the added risk of injury by stealing in a game that was already won -- which it was, given the way the Shocks had gone to sleep offensively against Strauss -- that's his problem, not ours. From a WSU standpoint, if the Shocks don't want somebody stealing on them with a 10-4 lead in the 9th inning, the solution is simple: don't get behind 10-4 in the 9th inning. Pitch better, give away fewer outs, have better at bats, just generally control the stuff they can control, and don't worry about the other coach's antics.

    • After the steal, what was Gene's reaction? Why was he unhappy?

Even RoyalShock asked "can someone explain what Gene was upset about right after the steal?

You don't care because it didn't dramatically change the outcome of the game. WSU lost. FSU won. So what. That's fine. Every game (and profession) has it's finer points and unwritten rules and there is no harm in discussing them. If you are not interested, that's ok. Others made the same observation and asked questions and as such it shouldn't be excluded from being discussed.

      • DaShox, I did ask that question. I didn't actually get an answer but did wonder if we were even attempting to hold the runner on and if not, perhaps Gene was upset at that.

I'm not making that assertion, only putting it out there as a possibility.

        • You guys are more mad than RoyalShock's GM avatar. Geesh! Just curious, when do you anticipate this issue to be buried and forgotten? It's not like any of this 'who started it first' bickering is going to change the result of what happened.

Ultimately, we got our asses handed to us fair and square. There's only one way to get even on this deal. Make it back to the Supers and/or CWS and hopefully we get to meet up with FSU again. Until then, does anyone here intend to see the movie 'The Happening' this Friday?

Da, I don't know what's so tough to figure out about Gene's reaction. He was mad because (a) he's an emotional guy, (b) his team was getting whipped, (c) one of his most enjoyable seasons was about to come to a disappointing end, and (d) he thought Martin was being obnoxious (which he was, I agree).

But it doesn't matter, and I repeat: there's no reason to fuss about it. And I'm on to other things now. You can continue complaining if you want, but I won't be here to see it.
