I give this team props for even beating FSU once, but their bats are too strong, and we have no consistent pitching left. Capra needs to have a good start, but i just don't see it. Let's just face it, FSU is hot right now, our only hope is that their #3 starter is not as good as Capra.
    I don't want much.

    Ahead in the count.
    First pitch strike.
Fast balls off the edge and down.
    Nasty sliders down.
    Fewer change ups and down.
    More breaking pitches down.
    No walks.
    No wild pitches.
    No dirt balls.
    Go 7 innings.

In other words, pitch like last year.

It looks like things got a little heated (no pun intended) out there today. I know there's alot of discussion on it from both fan bases. Personally, I see it as two teams that play hard, pure and simple, nothing intentional. It's hot and competitive, things are going to happen. That's sports gentlemen.

I have been very impressed with the grit of WSU; I was a little surprised to see Stephenson (sp) shut it down that early but can certainly understand it given the score and conditions out there today.

Good luck tomorrow, it should be another good one!
The Wichita Eagle's resident Shockers sports reporter has stated in his blog that FSU will throw out Strauss. Unless he made the comment before the FSU postgame interviews, maybe he's the one we will see starting. Either way, I think we see Parker and Strauss.

Oh and hit like we did in the 20-3 win against MSU.

We looked really out of sink, as far as pitching. Hopefully a good nights rest and a bit of lets make up for yesterday will bring us the W we seek!

He must have as Martin gave the nod to Parker in the postgame presser. I would be very surprised if you didn't see both however.

How do you guys feel about Capra? Reviews on this board seem mixed. Some recent below average starts?

I feel good about Cappy for some reason...I think he will be on tomorrow..but I am an optimist. Probably about the same way you all feel about Parker....Dont want to see a Bucknell outing again ..more like Miami and North Carolina...Yes recently he hasnt guite been himself but not too shabby at OSU...servicable ...and we will have McKeever ready as well for an inning or two according to our pitching coach after game 1 ..during his radio show
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... Capra has not went more than 6 innings in his last 6 starts. Last time he went more than 6 was on 4/20 against SIU where he threw 7.2 innings, 4 hits, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, and 9 K's. Since that game in 6 starts he's

                IP (average): 5.3 innings
                H per 9 IP: 9.9
                4.26 ERA
                W per 9 IP: 5.6
                K's Per 9 IP: 8.5

As you can see, there is nothing that indicates that he's likely to go 7 or more innings tomorrow based off his previous 6 starts. He's been walking alot which is a killer against a FSU lineup.

WSU hope has to be that he resembles the pitcher out in his first 7 appearances where he has a 1.65 ERA, 4.8 Hits per 9IP, 2.3 W per 9IP, 12K's per 9IP.

After Capra's day is done (which I pray to God it will be at least 7), who do we throw out after him? Who do we have left?

That's where, if we're still in it, the game will be decided IMO. Kelly hasn't pitched in like two weeks and was blistered against ORU. Honestly, who else do we got (that's worth it)?

I would assume that Kelley comes out of the BP first. Then WSU can go to

                      Hoch
                      Fleming
                      McKeever

Is there a reason we havent seen Kelley in while? I think I know why Fleming hasnt pitched. Hoch only threw 15 today so he might be able to get a few outs for us..I think we leave Kelley and Fleming out of the mix right now if we can help it...I assume Cappy can get us 5+ innings and we can use Hoch and McKeever for a combination of 4 innings if needed hopefully only 2 or 3.

Yes there is a reason, Kelley has not developed an out pitch yet, and you can't rely on his fastball against the likes of osu and fsu, he would get murdered.

We are asking a lot out of this team for tomorrow's game. We are all conceding that Capra is the key. However, he has struggled as of late and FSU is the worst possible team to ask him to get right. If he can go 6 or 7 innings that will be awesome, however, as SB points out, that does not seem likely.

FSU works the count and has been successful in getting Musgrave and Shafer to get their pitch count high. Add in Capra's 'wildness' of late, FSU is only going to make matters worse for him.

With that in mind, we are then placing a lot of pressure on the offense to keep up with FSU. Our hitters are not as good as theirs and that is asking a lot from them. Gene said it himself that if we try to go toe-to-toe with FSU in hitting we will lose.

I also believe the heat is draining these guys - this was the first game in the last 10 where it did not appear the guys were relaxed and having fun. Going up against FSU plays a part in that, but those long innings today killed the guys.

SB eluded to it a couple of pages back. We have to play perfect tomorrow in order to win. What are the odds that will happen? We have to get out in front early and by a lot of runs to get the momentum back, I just don't see that happening.
