I got the impression from press conference that he already had a staff in mind, and the way it was addressed seemed to imply that it would be new people. He deviated from his notes multiple times. Each time with subtle corrections.
He then mentioned at least twice about recruiters who have brought in multiple Nationally Ranked Recruiting classes. I don’t think Mike and Mike had done that yet.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see an entirely new coaching staff. Perhaps Pelfrey as a Volunteer assistant maybe?

Either way, the program needs our support to get back to where we can be. That’s on us.

He mentioned five coaching positions. Two Ace Recruiters, Two Pitching Coaches, and himself. We’ve always had five coaches. HC, Siriani, Pelf, DOBO, Volunteer Asst.

Most P5 programs have 4 salary coaches, DOBO, volunteer assistant.

At Washington State, he had 3 salary coaches, volunteer assistant, undergraduate assistant, DOBO, 9 support staff

Maybe responsibilities are altered, but not number of coaches, Einstein.

There has been a change in staffing rules. Starting July 1, baseball can have 4 paid coaches. Also, volunteer coach is no longer a thing.

You’re not very bright. Football failed because football sucked. Nobody wanted to spend their Saturdays watching a poor product. Therefore nobody showed up.The product draws in the money. Not the other way around. Maybe you don’t mind pouring your money into watching a poor product, but the majority of people won’t. It’s really not a hard concept to follow, pops.

That is why it died. What would have happened to WSU Basketball if fewer people supported a horrible number of years under three different coaches until MT and then GM was hired. Yes I was one of those fools that bought tickets and went to games that sucked in the hope of success. And guess what...Shocker basketball came back to life. So who were the fools. Those that supported a product that sucked or those that turned their back waiting for it to become better? But there are people that do choose to turn away from uncomfortable or hard decisions choosing to ignore them . I know what kind I am. Spare me the butthurt runaway ending to your post, Youre the one who came at me, pops. If you can't take the heat, then don't bring it in the first place or bow out quickly like you just did.

You can blame everything on the fans and support all you want. My initial post, if you understood basic reading comprehension, stated that the big boys can bring in the support when needed but the little guys can't afford to be just tossing their paychecks around for losing propositions. Some people will blindly throw their money away and have the capabilities of doing so,. Most Joe Fan can't afford to wait around until they feel their value is qualified and emptying their pocketbooks for the "chance" to be good. It's pretty simple. People don't show up for losing programs. If they did, then the athletic department would never feel the need to change anything and losing would be acceptable as long as the $$$ was flowing in. "If you build it, they will come" isn't just a great line in a great movie. It's the truth. Take a reality check and then come back and spout off with the big boys.

Coach Green was very complimentary of Payton, and generally all the Shocker players he has contacted, and said Payton was weighing some things. HCBG did say that Payton and his Mom did come by the complex yesterday to meet him in person.

All we really know at this point is that Payton has not entered the portal. No guarantee that won't change but at least he is giving Coach Green a chance to make his case.

Impossible to predict how many players that have entered the portal will choose to return to WSU or how many incoming recruits will re-confirm their commitments. But it seems to me to be a pretty daunting task he faces. I suspect most of the players may want to see how he fills out his staff before making a decision which he said he would have in place this weekend. He also seemed to indicate that he is looking for players to make their decision by the end of next week at which point he will start recruiting based where things stand at that point. However, it is perhaps a great opportunity for HCBG to sway the numerous naysayers and skeptics regarding his hiring.

I will say that from my perspective the energy and zeal at which he has shown so far in attacking this job has been pretty impressive.

Whether or not he will have success at Wichita State remains to be seen. But at this point I feel pretty confident that if he does not succeed it won't be from lack of effort and determination.

Glad to see that Gene and Brent seem to be supportive as well as Mike Pelfrey, Shane Dennis and other former Shockers. I get the feeling he understands the importance of having the support of Shocker alums.

While we all seem to be jaded by the new way of college athletics and we don't know where it will be in 5-10 years, I have no doubt that former Shockers who have given real "sweat" to the furthering of their program, are sincere in their support of Shocker baseball. Wedge received a lot of support, and even though Green isn't an original Shocker, I think they are sincere in their support of him too.
