If two guys with simple flame torches went after the faded blue seats for a day or so it would bring the look of the park up considerably. The multi-colored, seemingly random seat color choices don't do Eck much favor, but the tired blue ones that pre-date the big re-vamp are a particular eye sore, and all the more since they are right up on the field.

If someone tasked me with the simplest manner in which to bring Eck back up to speed a bit it would be new seats all around, and all one color of plastic, but no one is asking me.

How many D1 ballparks have you been to in the past 3 years?

We have done a lot of work with the weight rooms, locker rooms, etc. and they are great. But the overall facility is not Top 50.

The baseball budget was part of a FOIA posted a couple years ago. Our coaches and staff do a great job squeezing every penny they can out of it, but especially since we got to the AAC, it’s just not enough to compete at highest levels.

Charter flights, team catered meals while traveling, etc. There is a lot that the kids at these big programs are talking to the players they want to come join them.

What is lacking as far as the stadium itself? More than enough seats and a nice array of sky boxes and VIP areas, so what am I missing besides too many ugly blue seats?

What is lacking as far as the stadium itself? More than enough seats and a nice array of sky boxes and VIP areas, so what am I missing besides too many ugly blue seats?

It’s not quantity of seats. I posted upgrades that should be done. It’s all about experience and quality of facilities.

A couple thoughts...

ECK 2.0 was built for a WSU baseball future that never arrived. It has way to many seats and has been a morgue since the day it opened. For whatever reason it just swallows up a crowd and it's noise unless there are 4500+ there.

As someone else said though, the bones are there for a refurb but it would take some significant money to make it more fan friendly. All of the yellow seats should be taken out with the stadium being reconfigured to make that a second row of suites or some sort of party deck. Seats can then be added to match the current height of the green seats down the 3rd base line to help even the stadium out. The outfield can become the family place making the party deck/suite/loge boxes the place to be.

For those out of touch, Eck stadium is nice but we aren't pulling players here over KU/OU/KSU/Nebraska/Missouri/ORU because of it. P5's have invested significant money in baseball over the last decade leaving ECK as being on par with the above regionals.

The bottom line is that the the place is a deadzone and has been since the day it was built. Players want to play in front of fans and an engaged atmosphere, we have neither. I don't have any idea how to fix that or what needs to happen first to make that happen. Hopefully Green and the AD do....

I think in a perfect world a college baseball stadium should be around 3.5k and then outfield seating like Eck or even something like the new ballpark downtown where one side grass the other some sort of concrete area.

Wish they would just move the start of college baseball season another 3 weeks or so. That would do a world of help when it comes to attendance.

I could swear someone in one of the articles leading up to and including his hiring mentioned he was going to travel back to Wichita via his "diesel pusher" motor home. That ain't one. It's certainly a nice rig otherwise though.
