We laugh at this, but maybe he's meaning to pitch out there. I've seen high school pitchers who have an average fast ball (maybe a little below average even) with consistent location (no curve ball sometimes) who have success. I've seen these pitchers pitch outside off of the plate, and when allowed move farther and farther out.
Greg Brummett was an example of a very good pitcher, who had an above average H.S. Fastball, and maybe a little better than average (not by much though) college fastball, but he had nice secondary pitches and always had really good location of his fastball throughout his youth and college career. Brummett was a really good pitcher.
If this kid has an elite fastball, and really good location skills, he will be really good. Hopefully, he was trying to pitch 5-6" off of the plate on purpose.Comment
