They wouldn't be the first school to get the cart before the horse. And why have a press conference during the Sweet 16 weekend. Why wouldn't you wait until the beginning of the week so you had all the limelight to yourself. And besides, aren't the SC women's BB team in California for their Sweet 16 game on Saturday. Don't think their AD would want to detract from that.
Martin is in the middle of a contract that pays him $1.55 million per year and runs through 2015. By finishing tied for third in the Big 12 standings last season, he triggered a renegotiation clause. If a new arrangement is not met by June 1, Martin’s buyout to leave K-State would drop from $1 million to $500,000.
Stiff buyout compared to HCGM. You have to wonder what Martin's salary would be at SC, with a 1 million dollar buyout. And wonder why they would think Marshall was too expensive, unless of course Hyman, as reported, simply doesn't want Marshall....

-John Wooden
Typically, a school seeking a coach does not ask permission from another school to speak to its coach until after a deal is in place for that coach to be hired.
