  • I about chocked on my milk and cookies laughing so hard when chickenfan wanted Pat Knight over 3G. I'm still mopping up the milk that shot out of my nose.

To be fair, how many SEC fans actually go to their colleges? You're looking at football fans in the south as the primary cause of being a fan of those schools. Actually going to them is far from a requirement. Half of my family worships Georgia, but not a one of them actually went there. Or any college.

I don't see USC happening. Basketball is third or fourth on the pecking order there, the program is in shambles, the fans are uninformed and fair weather, and realistically you will never challenge for any more than second best in the conference. The only thing that job has going for it is being close to home for him. If that is the primary motivation for him, and it could be, maybe he'll take it. But I hope for his sake that he doesn't ... I like him as a coach, and if he's going to leave, I want him to have more success than he would be able to have there. I would be happier with the Illinois job, because he would at least be relevant.

I don't understand your intended sarcasm. UMKC is the type of program he needs to start at, not WSU. Sorry you have so little respect for WSU basketball.

            • John Cooper would be a FANTASTIC choice for ANY University. South Carolina would be lucky to have him.

You are right. A program with zero NCAA tournament victories since 1973 is an unpolished gem, not a festering turd.

And accurate. I've read your forums as well. More than half of your posters are unaware that WSU received an at large bid rather than a guaranteed bid for a conference champ. How did that one fan put it ... Charity from the NCAA to inferior teams?

As a fan of both major and "midmajor" college basketball, I can assure you that USC this year would have finished 9th in the MVC. The SEC has one great team and four decent teams, and you can't even get to the level behind them.

As for fairweather, your stadium was sitting at nearly half full this year, wasn't it?

And it would take a herculean effort to get USC to be the sixth best team in the SEC. The gap between Kentucky and the rest is massive. Every year.

When Marshall took over at WSU, we were one year removed from the Sweet 16. I believe the last time USC was in the Sweet 16 was 1973, right? Going to USC is a significant step down.

Considering Winthrop is considered a NCAA charity case by some of your fans, they had more NCAA tournament success under Marshall than USC has had in the last 35 years.

You know what's funny? USC's basketball program.

                              • For USC fans waiting for Marshall, here are some Heinlein (Robert A. Heinlein) quotes for your edification.

The hardest part about gaining any new idea is sweeping out the false idea occupying that niche. As long as that niche is occupied, evidence and proof and logical demonstration get nowhere. But once the niche is emptied of the wrong idea that has been filling it - once you can honestly say, I don't know, then it becomes possible to get at the truth.

Knock-Knock Who's there? Armageddon Armageddon who? Armageddon tired of all these knock-knock jokes!

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Does history record any case in which the majority was right?

Being right too soon is socially unacceptable.

The Earth is just too small and fragile a basket for the human race to keep all its eggs in.

The truth of a proposition has nothing to do with its credibility. And vice versa.

To stay young requires unceasing cultivation of the ability to unlearn old falsehoods.
