The western Big East would consist of CU, WSU, SLU, Marquette, DePaul, Butler, and Dayton/Xavier, and would be only marginally larger than the MVC's footprint. As far as travel, we would hardly notice a difference for 7 of our 10-11 conference road games.
My understanding is that the travel issue has to do with all our other sports that generally travel by bus. Should not impact the men's basketball program much at all.

            • Would the Valley really be all that upset if the Shockers were able to find another conference to join? Should that happen Missouri State could move to the Southland Conference and keep their football at the FCS level where it belongs.

The Valley would be left with the Illianowa Conference they probably would prefer. The conference has been steadily moving in the direction since the mid-70's anyway adding 6 members from Illianowa since that time. If they wanted to get back to 10 teams they could probably entice a couple members from among IUPUI, IPFW, Western Illinois, SIU-E, UIC or maybe Valpo. They could then move the Valley HQ and Tournament to Indianapolis. Then they would own the Illinois, Indiana and Iowa media markets, right? :p

Could be a win-win for everyone. WSU would be happier. MSU would be happier. And the new Illianowa Conference schools would be happier sans Wichita State and MSU. Of course, DBU would find another conference for baseball.

The key to all of this, of course, is the Shockers finding a new conference.

              • All the mediocrity would come full circle then. It'd be perfect.
                Deuces Valley.
                ... No really, deuces.

                  • At least in the BE you don't get rewarded for going 11-7 and "trying really hard"!

                    • It is possible the SEC could be a 2 bid league this year. Perhaps they need another powerful basketball only school to help pick up the slack. They have been having a rough time the last few years. Dreamers can dream right.

The SEC only cares about football though, so we have a looooooong way to go.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

                        • it's terrible that the Shox win the MoVal by 4 games and barely get into the NCAA tournament. Having to depend on
OCC games and Arch Madness is the main issue that scares me re WSU losing HCGM in the future.
Hoping Bardo finds the Shox another conference soon.

I have had this same thought throughout the year. I have this feeling this may be Marshall's final season at Wichita St. Certainly hope not but my gut tells me there's a better than 50% chance he feels its time to move on to a better league. I think Elgin wins this juvenille battle unless a new conference invites us like quick.
