Does this mean the University of Kansas is a commuter school?

UAB Task Force results due tomorrow.
Football final decision by June 1st.
C-USA vote on June 8th.
Hopefully we aren't replacing NKU in the A-SUN.
I'm wondering if the A-Sun will fold up eventually or add some other lower end schools out of conferences that might drive further realignment. Either scenario would cause something, I would think. Could be entertaining.
Then, there's the other question: Why is the Horizon adding schools? We've talked about Valpo in the MVC before... Maybe the "standing offer" with UAB includes the MVC going to 12 with UAB and Valpo. The Horizon might be trying to jump on things ahead of the curve since they only had 9 teams to begin with. If nothing happens, they still have improved to a 10 team conference by adding NKU, but if something does happen, they still have 9 like usual.

I still want a 12-16 MVC with Valpo, Milwaukee, UAB, Belmont and Murray State or some combination, so this thing about the A-Sun being on the brink fits the narrative I want to hear. A lot of those low to mid-major basketball conferences could just absorb the final 7 of the A-Sun. Maybe the OVC would like to bring in a few and let us take Belmont and Murray State :)

"Sources familiar with the letter said UAB was told that if the school doesn’t reinstate football, the C-USA Executive Committee almost certainly will vote on June 8 to suspend the Blazers from the league. C-USA bylaws require schools to offer field an FBS team.
Sources said that there was no support among league presidents for allowing UAB to compete in Conference USA without football.
Watts was told that UAB would be allowed to participate in Conference USA in 2015-2016 as a suspended member in order to give the school time to find another league home. If the Blazers leave C-USA, they are widely expected to apply to the Missouri Valley Conference.
The Blazers would be eligible for championships in all sports in 2015-2016, but would not be allowed to collect any conference revenue sharing.

Good for them. I had an interest in seeing them join the MVC but I found as I continued to follow it that it was really important to the community there. The more I saw how much they cared, the more I started to pull for reinstatement. WSU folks probably ought to enjoy this "win" for the community. Hopefully this ends well for them and isn't just prolonging something that is inevitable.

Rather than signalling financial issues across all of college football, University of Alabama-Birmingham's move is due to problems specific to the school and a few other at-risk programs in the lower quality conferences of FBS.
Is it a win? Notice the picture toward the bottom of the page. Attendance in 2014 was better but in 2013 and before, they averaged much less than 10,000 fans per game. Notice the picture of the stadium down the page. The article states that some of the MAC schools sometimes averaged less than 4000 fans in some years. If that happens, it definitely is not a win.

It just occurred to me how important it is going to be for the football team to have a decent or good season this year. I keep reading perspectives on how all this publicity could be good for UAB and their community if they bring it back. I also keep reading about how a LOT of money got pledged to make it happen. Those things may all be true, but if the team is bad and if fans don't show up, well...
I'm just not sure if reviving it is actually going to work at this point. They better win some games, and they are probably already starting out with a disadvantage, especially in recruiting. Wouldn't they have lost most of their best returning players who probably transferred during the shut down? And I doubt much successful recruiting took place when there was no program in place for the fall. Maybe a lot of the players were loyal and chose not to sign with any suitors until a decision was made. I guess they can hope that the energy surrounding the situation can overcome some of these issues.
If you come out next season and lose 10 games, that's going to be a buzz kill.
