I'll take a conference with Temple, Memphis, and us any day. Let alone that conference realignment seems to be dying down and Cincy and UConn are still in the conference. I'd gladly be in the AAC, even though I'd definitely rather be in the MW or the Big East, those just don't seem as realistic.

There are two great conference options for Wichita State.
1. American Conference 2014
West: Wichita State, Tulsa, Houston, Memphis, SMU, Tulane
East: Connecticut, Temple, East Carloina, Central Florida, South Florida
Just look at the great geographic fit!
Remember that Louisville, Rutgers and Villanova will not be a part of the American as of July 2014.
Navy is football only.
If Uconn Leaves you add UMass. If you Cincinnati Leaves you Add Ohio, Marshall, Charlotte, UAB, or Southern Miss.
Memphis isn't going anywhere
Play your division home and home, the other division once per year.
This is a great conference for travel, with only 3 road games per year in the East Division. 2 of them could be played on one trip.
Also a great conference for baseball!
2. Mountain West
East: Wichita State, New Mexico, Colorado State, Air Force, Wyoming, Utah State
West: San Diego State, UNLV, Nevada, Boise State, Fresno State, San Jose State
Road trips to the East Division not much more distance than the Missouri Valley.
Once again only 3 road games per year in the West Divison.
Both options are head and shoulder better than the Valley.

I think we need to get out of the Valley ASAP. To keep building our program and to keep Gregg, we need to keep the money flowing in. I'm not sure if the athletic department is struggling to pay coach now, but I'm betting things are pretty tight. As much as it sucks, TV is where the money is. And it's safe to say the Valley is not going to get a national TV contract (other than ESPN3) any time soon. It would also give us much more national exposure, if every (or almost every) league game was nationally televised.
Any of the above leagues would also give us several good built in games a year. It would take some of the pressure of on non-con scheduling. If we continue to aggressively schedule non-con and are in a solid league we could begin to build impressive schedules,
Looking at almost any numbers, (attendance, budgets, salary) we do not fit in with the rest of this league. I believe it will hold us back from getting to the level we want to be. Even Gonzaga in still considered a Mid Major by some. I don't think the goal should be to be a Gonzaga, but a basketball only powerhouse who's schedule will never be called into question (Marquette, Georgetown, Villanova, etc)Last edited by ICTShockerFan; January 16, 2014, 11:24 AM.
