Trump has no hope, it is just the dog days of summer where the pretender "momentum" will melt away before the first snow flake comes. Just remember 13% is 13%. Which is probably the number of people who waste their time watching his shows on TV.

Probably there because he came up through the Bush administration.

I travel down there frequently and I have good friends there. It's a beautiful country, but you have to know the culture, the politics and the players. Some places in the interior can be safe one day and dangerous the next. No area around the border is safe, Puebla and Mexico city are safe and have been for years, Cancun is safe, but stick to the tourist zone and don't go into non-tourist areas at night. Cuernavaca is safe, but wasn't a few years ago. My girlfriend raises money for the nuns at a convent in Veracruz state. A couple of years ago, the cartels threatened to kill them (and cut off their electricity and water).

Plus, I work on my Spanish by reading the newspapers. If I end up in a foreign country and can't find someone speaking English, an additional language is always a plus. I can get the Stratfor quality information and improve my Spanish by reading the state department advisories and reading the newspapers.

But WuDrWu, based on your sarcastic and insulting comments, I would bet that you don't do a lot of traveling outside the United States as it would require you to think, learn and be more tolerant. You're perfectly happy being smug and ignorant.

              BTW, you're welcome (in advance).

              • Your comments were extremely complimentary of (and could have been construed as admiration for) a ruthless drug lord. Marge Schott was essentially run out of baseball for much the same thing, correct?

I don't know what I said that was insulting, although I get that you don't like what YOU SAID being called out.

I don't do a lot of traveling outside the US, but it has nothing to do with being tolerant or not. I was raised to always be respectful of others in their house, and I will do no less in another country, not because I'm smart, but because I believe it's always been the right thing to do.

I am happy that Americans are being so well represented around the world by brilliant, tolerant and progressive thinkers like yourself. I can see that it's doing wonders for how others perceive us around the world.

And thanks for those little tidbits of foreign travel success. Hmm..knowing another language is helpful when you can't find someone that speaks English. That's effing brilliant! You should write a book. You have to be the first person to suggest something that far out of the box. I'd be happy to write the jacket for you, but it would be in crayon and use only 2-4 letter words and might not be what you're looking for when promoting to such a high brow intelligent and thoughtful audience.

I love the way you dig a hole for yourself with your ignorance. You really need to stay down on the farm. Farm animals understand your logic and the way you think. Someone with cognitive thinking abilities....not so much.

I'll pray for you today. God will forgive you insulting me. But I'd go to confession just to make sure.

Lindsey Graham also made a video about how to destroy a cell phone. I saw it today and I though tit was funny. Lindsey has it right. Make a joke out of it and don't react to Trump.

                      • Here's a thought. Trump is perfect for the media to latch onto. He is a lightning rod, and all of his skeletons are known. Maybe he is running block taking all the media attention so we can get a good GOP candidate for once. The republicans are also flooding the nominations. I think that while Trump and Bush are commanding the airwaves. There is simply no time for, "Oh this guy who isn't a big name like Trump or Bush did this scandalous thing a long time ago," because there too much of Donald running his mouth and Jeb responding to worry about Scott Walker or Ted Cruz until it's too late.

That's an argument that would seem to rely on the idea that those Republican candidates would not stand up well to being under the limelight. Which means rather than their negatives coming to light during the primary period -- generally seen as the time where you vet candidates for national electability -- they would instead come to light during the national election, at which point there would be no time to recover, let the news fade into background noise, or choose a more electable candidate.

Candidates being fully vetted by the media during the primary season is exactly when they should be vetted. Not after the Republican Party has had to fully commit to an unvetted candidate.

I could not have any less interest in Scott Walker. He's a college drop out with zero foreign policy knowledge, let alone experience. At a point where the Iran deal is such a major focus of the news, conflict with Russia is real and nuanced, and the Middle East is a dumpster fire, Mr. Walker strikes me as wholly unqualified for the Presidency. I could see him as a strong running-mate given his credibility on economic matters, but I'm not comfortable with someone with little to zero knowledge of foreign policy having the Presidency.

It's not about being hardened through the media. Rather, it's about fielding a candidate that the dems fear instead of one that they want to face. It's about going on the offensive instead of reacting to the democrats. I mean, if you want another dem in office, then what you are describing is fine. It's what the GOP has done the last 8 years and it has worked out beautifully.

And as far as Walker is concerned, LOL.

                              Or....

Trump will run as an independent, dooming the Republican party's chances and sealing the deal fir his old friends, the Clintons... All part of an evil plot..

Hillary gets the Whitehouse. Bill gets a "Penthouse". You know what I mean.. :-)

It's not about being hardened through the media, no. It's about making sure there are no smoking guns in their closet. If the media finds a massive skeleton in the closet of, say, Ted Cruz tomorrow, who cares? There are 15 other candidates to choose from. If the media finds that skeleton after the Republican nomination, the Democratic candidate wins.

Vetting candidates is the reason the GOP has lost the last two Presidential elections?

I don't want "another dem in office" anymore than I want a GOP candidate in the office. I'm this weird kind of person that weighs the positives and negatives of candidates individually without playing party cheerleader. I've been a registered independent my entire adult life. Considering I do not anticipate wanting to vote for Mrs. Clinton, I would like the Republicans to field the best candidate possible. Preferably one that can find Iran on the map with three guesses.
