I'll take a 4 game split with the Yanks at this point.

What can you say about Jose this series?

              9-16 (.563)
              6 Runs
              4 HRs
              10 RBI

For the season his up to .269 with 11 HRs, 48 RBI and 21 doubles.

If he could only figure out how to hit in April!

                  Jay Bell - 21 HR, 92 RBI (close0

                  1996
                  Nobody even close.

It's kind of amazing to think that we haven't had a legit (healthy) power hitter since Beltran left, yet we had at least two for the seven seasons prior to 2004.

It just shows how much improvement the current lineup needs (I'm talking to you Gordon, Teahen, Butler) without taking a step back in pitching for this team to contend.

A similar drought of legit power hitters existed from '92 through '96 as you have to go back to Danny Tartabull in '91 (31, 100).

                      A bit more Royals trivia:

Steve Busby pitched 38 complete games spanning the '74 and '75 seasons.

Willie Wilson had 668 career SBs. 83 in one season. Will baseball ever see another Wilson, Ricky Henderson (1406 career steals, 3 seasons with 100 or more) or Vince Coleman (3 seaons with 100+)? I suppose Jose Reyes has a chance, but hasn't yet swiped 80 in a season.

I'm surprised you don't see more teams use thier speed and steal bases. Joey should steal every other time he gets on base.....more or less. I think it shows that teams and managers are relying a lot more on the long ball then manufacturing runs.

It's just sad that some teams SB leader ends up with abou 20. I think Gordon led KC last year with 14 or something. That's just wrong.

You have to steal at a very high rate for it to be statistically justified. If slugging percentages go down, you will see a proportional increase in stolen bases.

Meltdown in the 8th. Teahen commits an error and the Rangers plate 4 to tie the game. Then Hillman gets tossed after complaining about a call and then getting baited by the ump. KC is going to lose this one.
