Looks like we have a couple of players or parents now joining the forum so it might be a good time to throw in a disclaimer:
Attention players and parents, do NOT take exception to anything you read on a forum. We are all WSU fans and as fans we coach from the bleachers, we second guess every move, we speculate, and we are all smarter than every coach out there we just have not been given the opportunity to coach yet.
There ya go, now enjoy the reading ;-)

I know that KK after an ugly last season 2009 went back to her long time pitching coach to get help with the riseball!!!!!! I believe that is what made it more effective this season. If I am not mistaken it is and was her screwball that took a beating when it faultered......I dont believe Bree had the same luxury available since she is from California.

I have said it a thousand times you can take an average pitcher and put her with the great coach and get great results....BUT you can also take a great pitcher and put her with a average coach and get a average results.

But I believe Coach Pooch is working to ensure the interest of the whole team and not just one player. I believe had there been an ultimatium made she would not have liked the outcome......

It's hard to recruit local talent around here when you have a local summer coach telling kids with or without verbals that they can do better than WSU.

shoxroc, the problem that most people see is that Pooch has now gone through 3 pitching coaches in 5 years. He is the one choosing these coaches so the buck has to stop with him at some point. When you consider that and the fact that the team has gotten worse every year for the last 5 years, it is hard to convince people it is all because of the latest pitching coach.

But one of those got married, and I believe would tell you she was never interested in coaching as a career. The first pitching coach was a bring-along and was not up to the task.

"a bring along not up to the task"? This is NCAA D1 right?

She is useful at a certain level of D-I, you discover she is not useful at a somewhat higher level of D-I, you make the change. I don't find that sequence out of the ordinary. But others might.

Quick Pitch I could see where that could pose a problem! But I keeping my fingers crossed he gets a good one. I am not sure what creditials they have to have to coach at this level but I know what they should!

Most of them are but there are many more players in Kansas than play for that one team you mention. Only they all have to walk on while the money goes to out of state players.

The Valley is a very weak conference in softball. It wouldn't take a lot to win games there.

Take a good look at the sophomore class in HS this year in the area.

I'll get off my soapbox now before I start on the women's basketball program too.

Havopen I would have to disagree with you on the Valley being a weak conference. The Shockers played several Big 12 teams this year and Baylor and Missiouri being the only big losses...Illinois St. beat the nationally known Arizona St this season... Shockers beat Texas Tech and Kansas and competed very well with OSU....I think the Valley conference is inconsistent but weak I dont agree.

Actually QP, I am helping my daughter Coach a T-Ball team this year so watch out. Also, I almost stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last weekend but had to cancel at the last minute.

At our first practice I asked the kids if anyone knew how to get a runner out. One of the kids said, "you ask them out"!

                        :D

1972, considering the incredible baseball/softball mind you already posess, if you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, I think Gene's job would be in jeopardy.

Pooch needs to go. He is losing it, and isn't getting it corrected quick enough.

Walton was the best thing that ever happened to WSU Shocker Softball.

Mike Perniciaro will be the head coach of the Wichita State softball program next year. While I agree we appear to be on a slippery slope, I'll be there rooting these girls and our coach on next season. Another 30 loss season will likely be the end of this regime however.

IF that happens (and I am hopeful that it won't) here are a couple of names to keep on the radar:

                              Tripp MacKay - Oklahoma

                              Pete D'Amour - Missouri

                              Dedeann Pendleton - Colorado State

Mackay- Oklahoma- good program - would use this as a stepping stone like Walton did but if he can win, who cares?
D'Amour - Mizzou- good program- he is not ready for prime time as a head man though
                                Glasco - Georgia- ditto MacKay
Pendleton - Colo State - you want to bring in an assistant from a team that won 29 games to replace a head coach that won 30? Dont see that happening.
Ogee - New Mex - ditto Pendleton
