I would bet that Pooch gets one more year to make something good happen. This is the advantage of coaching softball. If he were a basketball or football coach, the expectation would have been much higher.
Tim Walton left very big shoes to fill, but he also left about 3 years worth of good players and some pretty good ground work for recruiting coming off a trip to a Regional. I don't think another year of blaming the pitching coach will work.

            Apparently so.

Margo added to Pooch's staff as the pitching coach.

WICHITA, Kan. ? Margo Pruis, Wichita State's all-time winningest pitcher, has been hired as assistant softball coach at Wichita State University, Head Coach Mike Perniciaro announced today.

why would she come with a only a one year guarantee? She may not have a job next year.

Do assistant softball coaches ever get more than a 1 year deal?

Maybe she needed a job? I don't know about you, but like most people, I am day to day.

Yes they do. Maybe not at WSU because they leave before the Head Coach leaves or it is their fault instead of Head Coaches. Maybe he should hire coaches with more experience. Oh I forgot they might win.

Maybe he tried, I don't really know one way or the other, but if word is out that you are a lame duck then hiring a quality, experienced assistant and/or pitching coach may be easier said than done.

I have no way of knowing what kind of pitching coach Margo is or will be. I'm sure she will command the respect of her players simply based on her resume (similar to newly hired women's basketball assistant Bridgette Gordon). Whether or not she can translate her abilities and knowledge gained as a player into useful instruction and leadership as a coach remain to be seen.

With softball pitchers a lot of your success probably boils down to what kind of talent your given to mold.

At this point I think Margo deserves the benefit of the doubt and I wish her well in all respects.

I don't write contracts for the University, but I have never heard of multiple year contracts for assistants. Brent probably has one. But if Gregg is fired (or quits) I can tell you Coach Jans doesn't get paid more than this year.

I wish the new coach the best, and the program too. I'm just not sure where you are going with this 1.

Margo didn't need a job. She had one at Mid Tenn St.
