Softball pitchers are a dime a dozen. Ones who give up as many home run balls as she has go cheaper. A change in pitching coaches will not affect how many games this team wins or doesn't win as long as everything else stays current.
Hovpen you need to take a look at the stats between her an the reigning pitcher of the year. Pretty similar if you ask me except for innings pitched an win/loss record. Looks like we just need to score more runs.
I don't care if she is Jennie Finch. If these rumors are true then you have a student-athlete who has taken the team hostage in effect. This isn't the pros, and it makes you wonder who is really calling the shots over at Wilkins Stadium. This is disappointing stuff if true, and would seriously make me question the leadership in charge of the program.
The team could use a little damage control here, if there has been a move made, nip the rumors in the bud and say so. I'm not saying the pitching coach should have stayed, that may very well be justified, but one of those justifications is not the "star" pitcher demanding it which is a possibility based on some rumors here.

I'd love to see the stats, where are they? Someone took them offline.

Then why not fire the hitting coach? Just kidding. ;-)
Actually it is not so much the home runs that KK gives up as much as it is WHEN she gives them up. Makes me think that if we had a hard throwing closer with a sinker that could come in and slam the door for 2 innings we would have won more games.
You can find the stats on the missiouri valley conference website!!!! And before anymore finger pointing is done at KK please note she is only one player. There was no ultimatium made she was going to leave quietly at the end of the season! And who is to say The AD and Coach Pooch didnt take all necessary steps to protect the entire team afterall there were surveys sent out to the ENTIRE roster!
Holding a team hostage "Give me a break" you have 2 other pitchers and one more coming in. Should say something about the pitching coach herself if none of them have developed under her!! And as stated in previous comments pitchers are a dime a dozen!!!!!!!!!!!!
And I agree KK does give up the long ball at the wrong point but dont the pitchers throw what the pitching coach calls!!!!!!! Just asking!!!!!!!!!!

So did coach Burris have a sign that she gave when she wanted a meatball? sorry I couldn't resist.
Honestly I don't think it matters who is calling pitches. If a pitchers always runs into trouble late in the game, it would be a good idea to groom one of the other pitchers to be a closer. However in defense of Pooch, were there any signs that KK was starting to lose it? Like missing her spots, losing velocity, etc...? If not, then how do you know when to pull her? Do you determine that she only goes 5 or 6 innings per game? Who knows? That is why Pooch makes the big bucks.
;-) OK point taken Quick Pitch but after attending many of the games this year I would have to say that with the exception of a few games biggest one being in the Valley Tournament, most of the long balls given up by KK this season were early in the game. And with a struggling offense it made a huge difference in the win lose situation. It has become a necesity for KK to develop something downstairs in the strikezone.
shoxroc, I agree. It seems like it was always when she left the ball up (her rise I assume) that she gave up the long ball. A sinking fastball or a drop would keep her out of trouble.
Also you are right that most of her home runs came earlier in the games. It was her freshman year that it seemed like she gave up more late inning homers.
Going from freshman to sophomore, it appears considerable improvement was made. Just looking at the ERA from both years, overall from 3.64 to 2.27 and in conference games alone from 2.98 to 1.80. I would go along with the recruit a closer idea as it appears there was improvement made. Which goes back to a point I have made earlier with KK. Location, location, location. Just my opinion but she is too high in the zone. Develop that drop ball in the lower part of the zone and move on with her game.

Ok, the stats show great improvement. Then why get rid of the pitching coach? Sounds like she was doing a good job.
I would tend to agree on that part. I think it falls on the importance of SB to the WSU administration and how much they wish to invest in a winning program. Also, recruiting local talent would put some fans in the seats. However, I don't think we have a D-1 pitcher in the senior class this year, although maybe a couple of Mid D-1's coming in next.
