We went from a coach with over 20 years of experience to a coach with one year. She will have the same struggle to keep local talent as Jane did. When a Big 12 team or another high profile conference comes calling the MVC will lose out. Also, that same local talent must be Division 1 material, unlike Smith who tended to give just anybody a scholarship and burn bridges with local coaches, Jane did look for good and local talent. Hopefully, Adams has everything written out in her contract the lack of integrity within the atletic department would be a red flag for the majority of people. How long will it take for the vast majority of you to turn your back on this coach and call for her to be fired also? Since, you all are experts on the innerworkings of Division 1 women's basketball and the time it requires to be good coach.

Who says Kayla Rice will still want to come here? That's a big prediction there, she may choose to go another school in the Big 12 or another BCS conference. Remember, how many of the men's recruits last year decided to go other schools after Turgeon left. Rice may decide to attend another school because the coaching staff that recruited her is no longer here, a staff that she trusted.

Hopefully Adams will be able to accomplish what Jane couldn't. The better the team does, the more people will come. That's the way college athletics works, no matter what the sport is.

I think Coach Adams made it very clear in her press conference that she can't stand laziness, lying or cheating. I don't believe integrity will be an issue with Coach Adams. Of course, sometimes the truth can hurt.
Will Coach Adams be able to retain Kayla Rice and Haleigh Lankster. Who knows, but in Kayla's case why would she want to play for a Coach who was a point guard on a D-1 national championship team. Sure couldn't expect to learn anything about winning guard play from such a person I suppose.
Jane was replaced by Jim Schaus because Jane had the worst performance of any Coach in the modern ERA of WBB at WSU. The only impact the fans had was that they were losing interest in the program in significant numbers.

Here is my very early guess for next year:
At the 5: Sam Smith (6'3" Soph) backed up by Marcy Sudbeck (6'1" Senior)
At the 4: Daria Frazier (5'10" Senior) backed up by Jadhon Kerr (6'0" Soph) - Marcy could also play some 4 ifneeded.
At the 3: Jenn DeGarmo (6'1" Soph) backed up by Haleigh Lankster (5'10" Freshman)
At the 2: Val Siemens (5'10" Soph) backed up in no particular order by Kayla Rice (5'8" Freshman), Frannie Vathauer (5'10" Senior) and Shantel Pointer (5'10" Soph).
At the 1: I think this spot is wide open and an area where Coach Adams will be able to have the greatest immediate positive impact. Jacie Hoyt (5'6" Junior), Whitney Rice (5'7" Senior) and Kayla Rice (5'8" Freshman) all have a shot at the starting spot.
Of course, additional recruits could alter my lineup speculation.
Of course, I guess I will have to defer final say to Coach Adams.
What's your guess for next years record 1972?
We are losing as much or more in terms of minutes played, scoring and rebounding as any other MVC team. We are losing about 45% of our scoring and rebounding from a team that had difficulty scoring the ball.
On paper there is really no reason to expect much improvement, if any, in our record next year. I do hope to see some improvement in our competitiveness, especially on the road.
If we get close to a 0.500 record next year, I will be very impressed, although it is hard to envision that based on what I know right now.
One thing Jane failed to do was to develop players. If this Coaching staff is to succeed they will have to do a much better job of developing players and improving thier skills and abilities while in the program. If they can do this, then they will be one step ahead of the prior staff.
I am hoping Jim Schaus has duplicated his Lambo act with the hiring of a young, but obviously driven and determined, Coach Jody Adams.
However, I see a slow, gradual building of the program. Not an overnight turnaround.
However, we should be able to tell if things are getting better even before the wins start coming more frequently.
Time will tell, just as it did for Coach Albright.

72. I only disagree with one aspect of your lineup... I dont think the point guard position is near as open as you think. Jacie Hoyt is the point guard of this team bar none. Whitney is a serviceable back-up and a decent little player. There is a reason why the minutes played out the way they did this year and Jacie is a floor leader. Other than that, I think we should see big things out of Samantha Smith this year with a year of experience and some teaching she could be very good those long arms are such a weapon. I'd like to see some more running the floor next year rather than the jog it up run a play style we have seen. I am also excited to see what Val can bring to the table.

It's sad that Jacie is the best PG on the team. She has the ability to be good, but she makes way too many mistakes and poor decisions. And if the officials wanted to, they could nail her for traveling just about every time she touches the ball.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

... If you will care to recall, Jacie was a huge recruit coming out of highschool and signed at a program that is now a top 15 school. She basically fell into our lap after a blown out knee and I don't thinkwe had a shot at getting her before that. She was coming off of two YEARS of injuries and I don't know if you have ever had any types of injuries she had but for not playing in a game for two years and being thrown into the fire with little help is not the easiest thing to do. I think with one full year under the belt and some solid off season practicing we will see the point guard of our team next year. I hope for the best for all these girls. We are all lucky to have such a great group who do not get in trouble, work in the community, maintain excellent grades etc...

I think Jacie has the potential to be a good point guard, as does Whitney and I am assuming Kayla Rice, if we are able to retain her.
Jacie took the 3rd most shots on the team last year but had the worst FG shooting percentage on the team at 26.0%. She also had 92 turnovers to only 71 assists.
Whitney Rice was not a whole lot better but only played half as much as Jacie. She shot 30.6% from the field, had a slightly better assist to turnover ratio at 0.77 to 0.74, is a better free throw shooter than Jacie and had more steals per minute played than Jacie.
Looking forward to seeing what kind of player Kayla Rice is. She put big numbers in high school but at the next to smallest class in Missouri so it's hard to know what the level of competition was.

I'm predicting the two recruits don't come.
As for W. Rice compared to Hoyt this year, you can't compare without pointing out that W. Rice played on injured legs most of the season that probably should have warranted a medical hardship and most definitely impacted her play. Looking at Rice's freshman stats compared to Hoyt's "freshman" stats and Rice gets the nod even when you consider she put up those numbers playing 2/3 the time Hoyt got this year. And, she didn't need the luxury of a year to "settle into the D1 game".
You Kansans were high on Hoyt before she got hurt the first year but her stats are basically the same year over year so I don't get what you guys see. But, I'm only a transplanted and not a native Kansan so I guess I wouldn't. And, you're quick to point out that Missouri small-town ball might not cut it but livid when someone implies a small-town Kansas girl might not.
If we are going to run and I hope we do, I'd like to see us become much less concerned about who is literally the 1. But, I don't see Val and Jen and Daria on the floor at the same time for lengthy
periods in a running game as they aren't yet the ball handlers needed for a running game. I really think you'd see Rice and Hoyt playing together more in a running game.
Make no mistake I am in favor of an uptempo game and that is why I've been more of a
Whitney fan than Taylor or Jacie. Yes, even if it means more TO's and playing an Okie. In fact, in reading the Murray State weekly press conferences, even our new coach points out that a running game can create more TOs.
Regardless of who is on the floor next season, I'm anxious to see a system designed to take advantage of our players' strengths. Maybe then I'll become a Hoyt fan......maybe it's been the system. But, Subgod is right, she does walk on every drive and that's not the system.

They seem like decent recruits, especially Kayla Rice, but you never know for sure until they make the jump to D-1 ball. Nevertheless, I would like to keep them in the fold if possible. If not, then Coach Adams will get to add a couple of more players of her own choosing either this year or next year.
