That wonderful group of young women kept their composure in a very physical game. It's great to see all their hard work payoff so they get to go dancing.

Congratulations Ladies. Wasn't a thing of beauty down the stretch but so happy you were able to tough out the win. Our underclassmen Alex and Michaela continue to lead the way although Jessica and Chynna generally played pretty well today also.
If this team can figure out how to put a full 40 minute game together they have a chance to pull off an upset in the dance. They probably will come in as around a 12 or 13 seed I would think.
Clearly this team has put together the most successful basketball season in Shocker WBB history. Something they should be extremely proud of.
Good luck in the dance Ladies. What the heck time to set another program 1st. 1st NCAA win in history.
Go Shocks!

Sounds similar to Michaela. Bookends indeed.Last edited by 1972Shocker; March 17, 2013, 05:44 PM.

Very proud of these young ladies today and a well deserved championship.
It's amazing what good defense and taking care of the ball will do for you. And effort...oh that effort...misguided at times but the Shocks got after it for 3 straight games and get a trophy and a dance card for their efforts.
Congratulations Coach Adams and all the Shockers!!!

As if Alex didn't already have a full plate I noticed Jody had her jumping center yestderday and today. She won the tip against the much bigger Janae Smith today. Not a big deal, just found that interesting.
Hopefully, Alex will get to stay in the whirlpool as long as she likes. She has averaged 39 minutes a game over the last 6 games and played 81 minutes yesterday and today.Last edited by 1972Shocker; March 17, 2013, 06:18 PM.

Illinois State has made a living with D-1 transfers. Jamie Russell was a 2-year transfer from Wisconsin, Candace Sykes transferred after a redshirt year and a partial season at Alabama and received and SLR waiver so she could play for ILS without sitting out, Janae Smith transferred to Illinois State after an All-Freshman year at College of Charleston and Illlinois State has another transfer from Wisconsin, 5-10 G Lyndsey Smith, who will be eligible next year and have 3 years of eligibility for the Redbirds. Lindsey Smith is from Iowa and Russell, Sykes and Janea Smith were all Illinois kids.
They essentially have built their program around these transfers.
