The Lady Shocks are off to a nice start leading SMU 22-9 at the end of the 1st quarter. One of their better shooting performances early.
The game is on the American Digital Network.
Shocks lead 33-22 at half but I have a feeling this game will tighten up before it's over.
Maybe not. Shocks up 53-32 after 3 quarters.
Thought the Shocks played the 1st 6 minutes of the 4th Quarter way too passively almost not even looking to score but then the turned it back on and finished off a 66-43 win to even there AAC record at 3-3.Last edited by 1972Shocker; January 16, 2018, 10:04 PM.

I thought the Shocker zone (I still thinks it starts off as a 1-1-3, but maybe it becomes a 2-3 quickly) was a major difference in this game. SMU also played a zone, but the Shockers moved the ball much more quickly on offense and created the better opportunities.
EDIT: From the post-game show, HCKA cited rebounding as being a big key to the result. The Shockers outboarded SMU 37-27. Also, the RH report.Last edited by flyingMoose; January 17, 2018, 09:15 AM.

1972Shocker and flyingMoose. What do you think the chances are for the Lady Shocks to finish at .500 (or better) in conference play?

Shocks have 10 games remaining so need to finish 5-5 to be at .500 in conference play. UConn for sure and most likely USF and Houston will be losses. So they would need to go 5-2 in the following games:
Home: Cincinnati, Temple and Tulane
Road: Memphis, ECU, SMU and Tulsa
It they continue to play like they have over the past three games and shoot the ball reasonalby well they have a chance but it is far from assured. Not sure what I woud put their chances at. Probably somewhere below 50%.Last edited by 1972Shocker; January 17, 2018, 12:02 PM.

I'll go with what he said. The RPI for the Shockers continues to improve as a result of the recent wins and is now at 177 (from the low 200's not long ago).
Looking at the power rating sites you can find would have all seven as winnable but many of them would be very close. The question is if they can continue their recent mojo.

From the USF site:
Quotable
Head coach Jose Fernandez's thoughts on the game:
"When you go on the road, you've got to make your free throws. You've got to take care of the ball and everybody is going to play hard and passionate against you. Nobody is going to lay down against a team like us. It's disappointing."
Also, we know that HCKA likes to recruit foreign players, but she has nothing on Coach Fernandez. Four of his starters are from Latvia, Denmark, Portugal and Spain. There were effectively only two subs, one from Spain, one an American.Last edited by flyingMoose; January 21, 2018, 10:31 PM.

They have won 7 games by big margins this year, yet they have 4 players who average 33-35 mpg.

After listening to the Coach Adams show this evening, I appreciate the win yesterday even more. Many of the young ladies on the team have gone through so much because of the turmoil of the past few years. They deserve so much to experience the sweetness of the success that they have been having in these past 4 games. Keep it up ladies!
Go go get it!ShockerNet is a rat infested cess pool.
