How often does a team hit 3 of 13 treys while their opponents hit 10 of 21 on the road and still walk off the floor with a 13 point win? Not often buy the Lady Shocks did that today in their 77-64 win at Memphis.

Perhaps most impressive was that the Shocks had 25 assists on 32 baskets.

And limited turnovers....taking care of the ball is not a typical thing. POTs was 34-10. Not sure what to think....HCKA clearly is getting through to the team right now, but is this a nice little stretch or a sign of things to come? I think they only play 2 non seniors. Can they finish better than 4-4? One thing about the Valley at least there was the tiniest chance you might win the post season tourney and get to the dance. That chance has waved bye bye.

I think we will be back to square one next year from a roster standpoint as only Juniors Sabrina and Cesaria have played much this year. Freshman Alyssia Faye has played some but her minutes have diminished as the year has progressed. Earlier in the year Cesaria was extremely hesitant to shoot preferring to try to get the ball to her teammates. She showed she was a good passer but tended to turn the ball over a lot. Now she is looking to score more and today she scored 19 points on only 10 shots and dished out 6 assists vs 2 turnovers. She has come a long way. Regardless how this year turns out HCKA has shown be some good things. That said though it may take her a few years to get her roster more balanced and build the program to a more sustainable footing.

New coach, new conference. Have I greatly underestimated what I thought HCKA, staff, and team could do this year? Wow!

I did not think we'd be tied for 4th at this point in the season that's for sure.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

Pleased with the way this group of Seniors have bought into what HCKA is selling when they easily could have just mailed it in this year and gone through the motions. Of course, this has to be a lot more fun and rewarding and hopefully the Ladies will keep it going and finish up their careers with a feel good perspective heading out the door.

Cesaria made the AAC Weekly Honor Roll. This is one Juco Transfer who has come a long way with her game this year.

WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State junior guard Cesaria Ambrosio was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll after helping the Shockers run their winning streak to five in a row with a road win at Memphis this past week.

Key stretch of games coming up for the Shockers (10-12, 5-3) to position themselves for the home stretch of the conference season.

They have ECU (11-10, 3-5) on the road tomorrow, then Houston this coming Saturday and Cincy next Wednesday before they head off to Hartford, Connecticut and you know who.

They need to maintian their 2 game lead over ECU then see if what they can do against Houston (16-6, 5-3) and Cincy (13-8, 5-3) at home, the two teams tied with the Shockers for 4th place in the AAC. Houston whacked the Shocks pretty good early this season in Houston winning 73-55.

If the Shocks keep playing the way they have over the past 5 games then all 3 of these upcoming games are winnable games. If they can come out of the UConn game with an 8-4 AAC record with games reamining against Temple (1-6) at home, at SMU ((1-7), Tulane (3-5) at home and at Tulsa (2-6) I think this team can start thing about the WNIT as a post-season goal despite their 5-12 start to the season. What you think Shocker fans?

Sometimes when you're a Coach, you just need to wear a yellow bodysuit.

Keitha Adams a/k/a the Go Get It Gal.

The Shocks really didn;t Go Get It in the 1st quarter. They played okay offensively but not so much defensively. Shocks played mostly zone seemingly okay with giving up three poiint shots but so far ECU is up to the task having hit 4 of 6 treys in the quarter. Shocks trail 18-20.

Shocks were much better on defense in the 2nd quarter but had some foul trouble with Rangie, Angie and Sabrina all picking up 2 fouls most them less than smart. The Shocks lead 28-22 when Rangie joined Angiee in the bench with 4:36 remaining leaving Sabrina and Alyssia to fill the front court slots. However, the Shocks held their own and a half court shot by Teke at the buzzer (only the 2nd 3-pointer of her career) put the Shocks up 39-31 at the half.

I think the Shocks can play better especially Rangie and Diamond. Sabrina, Angiee, Keke and Alyssia played pretty well although Angiee, while she scored 8 points, only played 5 minutes due to foul trouble.

Shocks got off to a good start in tehe 3rd quarter, got up by 16, then gave up a 6-0 run during which Angiee was horrible. Unfortunatley, Sabrina picked up her 3rd foul (highly questionable) early in the quarter so we may be stuck with Angiee. Hopefully, Angiee starts to get with it.

Shocks all of a sudden play. Goof off and give it away.

Shocks lead 58-49 at the end of 3 quarters as they pretty much went exclusively to Rangie in the final 5:00 minutes of th quarter but they are not playing all that well. This game is still in doubt the way the Shocks are playing. Shocks final possession of the quarter was terrible and resulted in a ECU layup at the buzzer.

Shocks lead is down to 5 at 60-55 with 8 minutes left.

Now 62-59 with 5:30 to go. ECU looks like they have the Go Get It attitude at this point. We'll see if the Shocks really want this.

Shocks can't even get a shot off now. They are playing scared. Tied at 62 all. Make that ECU 64 - Shockers 62 after another turnover.

Shocks now down 69-62 and turn the ball over again. Less than 2:00 minutes left. This one is over.

Fina Score: ECU 77 - WSU 67. ECU outscores the Shocks 30-9 in the 4th quarter. Apparently the Shocks left theri Go Get It in Wichita.

ECU has 5 players in double figures.

One weakness of this Shocker team is that they do not typically shoot ball well form distance. The Shocks were 1-10 from 3 vs ECU with the only make a half court Hail Mary by Keke at the end of the 1st half. OTOH ECU was 5-11. Seemed liek the Shocks just totally lost their focus and compsoure after building the 16 point lead in the 3rd quarter.

Shocks fall at home to Houston today 62-73. I think the Shocks have a tough time matching up against Houston's athleticism and quickness.

Tough shooting day for Rangie and Sabrina as they combined for 6-24 from the field. The Shocks are kind of interesting in that they are the best free throw shooting team in the AAC and one of the worst 3 point shooting teams.

Shocks fall to 5-5 with 6 games to go including at UConn. A reasonable goal now would be to finish 0.500 in conference play which certainly is doable.

This crew must have been auditioning for the NBA. They probably called only half of the travels by Houston. HCKA got a T (early in Q4, I think) when she came onto the court to protest the lack of a call. She deserved the T, and I am proud of her for getting it.

Yes, on the "athleticism and quickness." The Shockers had a lot of poor decisions, poor passes, missed shots underneath.

The Lady Shocks fell to Cincy at Koch Arena tonight 69-75 in a game that is a bit difficult to describe. Cincy came out in the 1st quarter on fire as the made 9 of 12 FG attempts including 5-5 from outside the arc to take a 24-15 lead. At that point you wondered if the Shocks were on their way to be blown out at home.

Another 3 pointer by Cincy 8 seconds into the 3rd quarter made it 27-15. It was still 35-24 Cincy with about 5:30 remaining in the half when the Shocks made a move with a 12-0 run to put the Shocks up 36-35 with just under 2 minutes to go in the half. Unfortunately, the Shocks must have relaxed bit and Cincy finished with a 7-0 run to take a 42-36 lead heading to the locker room. That 6 point difference ended up being the final margin.

The Shocks came roaring out the locker room with a 9-0 run in the first 2 minutes of the 3rd quarter behind 3 mid-range jumpers by Diamond and a trey by Sabrina to take a 45-42 lead. It was back and forth the rest of the quarter with Cincy holding a 56-55 lead at the end of the quarter.

4 consecutive fast-break layups by Cincy over about 90 seconds put the Bearcats back on top at 68-63 with about 4 minute remaining in the game. I think it was about this same time the Rangie went down with a leg cramp or some type of injury to her lower left leg. Rangie had to leave the game but returned shortly thereafter and somehow managed to limp through the remainder of the game as the Shocks then went on a 6-0 run to regain the lead at 69-68 with 1:04 to play but it was all Cincy in that final minute as the Bearcats hit another trey to regain the lead then hit 4 of 6 free throws to seal the deal. One of the free throws they missed was the front end of 2 shots. The other was the backend but Cincy got the offensive rebound over the hobbled Rangie Bessard.

Cincy was probably the better team but the Shocks worked pretty hard to get back in the game and put themselves in a position to win the game. Maybe the Shocks would have won the game if Rangie had not been injured during a good part of the 4th quarter but there were a lot of things that perhaps could have altered the outcome.

WICHITA, Kan. – Rangie Bessard scored 24 points and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to complete the comeback, as Cincinnati held off Wichita State, 75-69, Wednesday night in Charles Koch Arena.
