Since we don't have a games of interest for Softball

Charlotte is an interesting case. A win over #4 FSU at FSU, now a win over #14 Kentucky but also has 2 losses to Boston University

Boston U is a good team. Finished 39th in RPI last year and won a game in the NCAA tournament. 13th in RPI right now and ranked by a few publications.

                        • Interesting that Siera Hoekstra is at short and Sami has moved over to 2nd for this game and Krystin is at 3rd with CC as the DP.

Shocks are the home team in this one. Early on Mizzou is not intimidated by Chloe's stuff. Hit batter followed by a home run stakes the Tigers to a quick 2-0 lead. After striking out the next 2 batters Chloe gives up back-to-back doubles making it 3-0 before getting and infield pop up to end that Mizzou at bat.

Let's see how Chloe responds to some adversity and whether she has the variety of pitches to deal with a very strong hitting team like Mizzou.

In the bottom of the 1st the Shocks get a 1 out double from Addie but Taylor and Burbs are unable to move her any further.

Chloe works a scoreless 2nd with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Shocks down in order in the 2nd.

Chloe gives up a 2-out infield single and nothing else in the 3rd. Krystin puts the Shock on the board with a solo home run to make it a 3-1 game.

Chloe skirted around issues of her own making in the 4th. With one out a walk and a hit batter put runners at 1st and 2nd. After a line out to short a wild pitch moved the runners up to 2nd and 3rd before a line out to right ended the inning. Hard to say exactly what the live stats describe as a line out is. Could be anything between a hard hit screamer and a softly hit floater. Nothind doing or the Shocks in the bottom half.

Chloe works around more trouble in the 5th. After a lead off strike out, a walk, single and a wild pitch put runners at 2nd and 3rd. It appears the next batter grounded to 3rd and Krystin was able to tag the runner at 3rd out leaving runners at 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. A fly out to center ended the threat. With 1-out in the botton of the inning Mizzou goes to Marissa McCann in the circle in releief of Cierra Harrison who pitched very well. McCann stirkes out Krystin and CC.

More trouble for Chloe in the 6th. She walks the 9 hole hitter on 4 pitches. The Mizzou lead off hitter, probably attempting to sacrfice, beats out a bunt then Chloe hits the next batter on a 3-2 pitch to load the bases with no out. Chloe perhaps tiring. A grounder to short gets a force out home plate with the runner ejected for a take-out slide. A sac fly to left drives in Mizzou's 4th run with the other runners moving up to 2nd and 3rd. Chloe clearly toiling walks the next batter to reload the bases. HCKB goes to Alex to see if she can get this last out. Alex gives up a 2-run single to center before getting a fly out to center as Mizzou extends their lead to 6-1. Addie, Taylor and Burbs go down quickly on only 4 pitches in the bottom half.

After getting the first 2 outs in the top of the 7th Mizzou gets 2 infield singles followed by a 2-run double making it 8-1. Shocks will need an unlikely comebac for the ages. Lainee gets a 1-out homer to right center, but that is all she wrote for the Shocks.

                          Final Score: Mizzou 8 - Shocks 6

                          • 2-2 I think was probably about as good as the Shocks good have expected this weekend with 3-1 possible but dependent on Chloe shutting down a very good Mizzou team which did not happen.

Chloe was not at her best today but I am not concerned too much about that considering the competition. In fact, I think this was probably a very good experience for the freshman to have a game in which she was constantly stressed and she actually did a fairly good job dealing with that. I am more concerned about what was supposed to be our experienced group of returning pitchers.

I think the offense did take some positive steps this weekend especially with Krystin hopefully starting to hit and getting some contributions from the bottom 5 in the order.

Things don't ease up any with Oklahoma State at Sillwater on the menu for Wednesday evening. It will be interesting to see how HCKB handles the ptiching in that one with the Shocks hosting FAU next weekend to open up AAC play.
