      Game One

      Shockers at Nebraska

Lineup: CC, Addison, Taylor, Bailey, Sami, Lainee, Caroline, Mila, Krystin with Chloe in the circle. Caitlin Olensky (4.10 and 1.46), who has pitched 13.2 innings, is the starter for Nebraska. This is third-most innings on the Husker staff, about half of the second-most innings. Apparently, the top two starters are being saved for ranked Missouri.

Three up, three down in the Shocker first.

Billie Andrews, the stud on offense for Nebraska, is hit by a 3-2 pitch and steals second. She scores on a double by the next batter. With two outs, a single sends the runner to third, but a strikeout ends the inning, the second K of the inning for Chloe. 1-0 Huskers after one.

A two-minute delay for work by the grounds crew. Get the circle the way the pitcher wants it? No recent rain.

It did not help. Bailey walks on four pitches. Sami hits into a force out and then advances on a passed ball. An out later, Caroline walks, but Mila fans to end the threat.

With one out, another K, Nebraska gets back-to-back singles. The front end of at attempted double steal is thrown out by Lainee for the second out of the inning. A flyout ends the inning. Huskers 1-0 after two.

Krystin works a full-count walk to lead off the third for the Shocks. Three outs follow. For Nebraska, a two-out single leads to nothing. Five hits given up by Chloe but no walks. Still 1-0 after three.

With one out, Sami triples for the Shockers. Lainee immediately singles her home. Those were the first two hit for the Shocks. Kinney is in to pitch for the Huskers. Caroline's single moves Lainee to second, and Mila's infield single loads the bases. A ground ball force out scores Lainee to give the Shockers the lead. 2-1 in the middle of the fourth.

Three outs and Chloe's fifth K in the bottom half. 2-1 after four complete.

Is that the grounds crew or the ground screw?

Actually you initially typed it like they had it on the live stats.

Big 2-run homer in the top of the 5th for Burbs. Burbs is off to a very nice start to her final year.

Tucked that one into the RF corner.

Shocks have great chance to put this one away.

A nice throw by Lainee but an even better snag and tag by Sami. BTW, good luck trying to bunt that rise ball (or high fast ball).

What Chloe can do consistently to get out of trouble that the rest of the Shocker pitchers can't do consistently.

It's just hard to believe how this young lady could fly under the recruiting radar like she did.

Yes, I saw that, too. It looked funny, but I thought they knew what they are talking about. I doubt it.

Taylor draws a one-out walk and steals second. No need. Bailey follows with a homer. Sami and Lainee continue the inning with singles. Olensky is back in the circle. Caroline doubles to move everybody up two bases, scoring Sami. Mila is hit by a pitch to load the bases. Krystin's infield single scores another run. Back to the top of the order who has done nothing to this point. An out later, Addie singles home another run. Five runs in the fifth. Shockers 7-1 in the middle of the fifth.

Huskers get a one-out double but cannot score her. 7-1 after five complete.

Emmerson Cope (2.84 and 2.11 in 12.1 innings) in now pitching for Nebraska.

Bailey leads off with a single, but pinch-runner Avery is doubled off on Sami's line drive to first. Three outs for the Huskers. 7-1 after six.

Cope retires three Shockers in the seventh. With two outs, Chloe hits a batter. Back to the top of the order for the Huskers. Chloe issues her first walk of the game. And the runner is picked off second to end the game! 2-5-4. Sounds like a ball in the dirt, the runner thought she could advance to third and discovered she could not.

                              Shockers 7-1 Nebraska

A very impressive win. Chloe scattered six hits (four of them in the first two innings), striking seven and walking one. Bailey (homer) Sami (triple), Lainee, and Caroline (double) all had two hits of the eleven by the Shocks. Bailey and Krystin both had two RBI.

Not the prettiest change(?) you will ever see but it was effective. If Chloe can command that pitch at some point she will be even tougher.
