Chloe ties the program record for strike outs again with 15 ... one out to go

She gets the K to end it .. 16 Ks which should be a program record. 31 strikeouts in two starts this weekend ...

I really though Bright’s records would stand for a long time.

interesting that Chloe came in late in the UTA game .. didn't pitch in the Arkansas game last night ... now pitching today. Maybe arm just wasn't ready? Would have think you would have at least wanted to throw her vs Arkansas

Of note, through 3 innings .. 7 Ks 0 hits for Chloe

Arm was ready but we had to do everything we could to make sure we went 4-1 and had already beaten Arkansas once. Also, we need to find out who else could pitch. Aguilar wasn’t terrible and Cooper was spent after throwing six earlier. Aguilar could have stayed in awhile longer in hindsight but in the long run that may have been a good thing she didn’t.

If an athlete enters a contest (at the varsity or JV level), even if only for one or two minutes or for one or two plays, that athlete will be using one of their four seasons of college eligibility.

Once that happens, their only opportunity to get this season “over again” will be if they suffer a season-ending injury or illness before the midpoint of the season and have not exceeded the limit on the number of games played or dates of competition for their sport.

Yes, that was my point. The traditional redshirt has been burned but a medical redshirt is still possible. If you are not playing, however ... well, you could have an injury during practice, stepping off the bus, whatever.

Did anyone actually watch the game to see if Sophia actually played? I didn't, only followed along on statbroadcast. I bring this up because stat trackers, at least in volleyball, have been known to get the players in the game wrong. Does this also happen in softball? Is it possible the stat keeper got it wrong? (Lainee is #22, Sophia is #23..?) Seems strange to toss a possible redshirt out the window for a couple of outs a few games into the season.

Sophie is in the stats as having played in a game and having had one at bat against Arkansas. That is all it takes. The traditional redshirt option is closed.

I don't know what the circumstances or reasoning was on why they decided to insert Sophie in place of Lainee late in that Arkansas game. I also don't know for sure whether or not they was even an intention to redshirt Sophie this year. Don't recall hearing anything about that one way or the other.

Go Shockers - Shockers Sweep AAC Player, Pitcher of the Week Honors

Wichita State's Chloe Barber and CC Wong have swept the American Athletic Conference weekly softball honors, earning Pitcher and Player of the Week accolades.

Barber took the softball world by storm this weekend at the Razorback Invitational. The freshman appeared in three games, making two starts, and struck out 33 hitters in 15.0 innings. She allowed only two runs, sporting a 0.93 ERA on eight hits. Barber tied the single game school record with 15 strikeouts in Wichita State's 3-1 win at No. 15/14 Arkansas Friday night. Two days later she proceeded to break that school record with 16 strikeouts vs. Illinois State. For the season, she is 3-0 with 49 strikeouts in 24.0 innings and a 2.33 ERA. Her 14.3 strikeouts per 7.0 innings is tops in the country.

Wong continued her blazing start at the plate in Fayetteville. Over five games, Wong was 8-for-14 (.571) with a double, three home runs, four walks, four runs scored and 11 RBI. She had multiple hits in three of the five games and multiple RBI in all five. She finished the tournament with a home run in each of the final three games. Through 10 games Wong has a .548 batting average which ranks 11th nationally. She is Top 10 in the country in on base percentage and slugging percentage.

These are the first weekly awards for Barber and Wong.

Wichita State travels to Lincoln, Neb., for the Big Red Invitational this weekend to face Nebraska and nationally ranked Missouri.
