  • Noel will be playing at Rucker Park in the Elite 24 Hoops Classic on August 24th with 23 other top high school prospects. This is one of the premier all-star games in the country. If it's allowed, I hope we have our coaches in attendence at this event.

    • And, per the NY Post, dad will be there to watch ...

      Big "Cheese" II

Former Haaren High School (Class of 1976) all-city star Lynbert "Cheese" Johnson (Wichita State, Golden State Warriors) returns to the Big Apple to watch his son, Noel, a 6-foot-7 shooting guard, participate at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 Hoops Friday night at Rucker Park (7:30 p.m.).
The event, sponsored by RISE Magazine, is designed to bring the top 24 players in the country together regardless of sneaker affiliation. The Fayetteville, Ga., sensation, Class of 2009, is being recruited by teams in all the major conferences.
Cheese, asked to compare Noel to himself, told The Rumble: "He's definitely a better shooter. His basketball IQ at that age (16) is pretty high."
Noel's workout partner at the Gauchos' gym is Tiny Archibald, and his godfather is former Knick Xavier McDaniel.
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

      • Wow!!! Not that was some awesome material. Playing hoops at WSU sure did not hold back Cheese or the X-Man from playing in the NBA. Noel is a young man that oodles of us will scrutinize closely his progress no matter where he plays College Hoops. However, we want him HERE obviously. No telling how many posts will be made here before Noel signs because he would be a huge addition for us. He already has quite a fan club base here on the SN!!!!!!!

        • That's for sure FSF. This is one kid that if he goes somewhere else, heaven forbid, that I'd tune in to see play and would actually be able to cheer for to do well. But it would all be so much easier, and better, if he just came here :D

              • One thing is for sure. Coach Gregg Marshall would not be intimidated to recruit a highly sought out player to WSU. Recently we were MVC Champs and a Sweet 16 team and last year was ranked 8th in the Season at one juncture, so we are not chopped liver.

                • This is so exciting!!! getting him would be huge.

If he went to kentucky, florida, or anything like that he'd probably just be another quailty guy.

But here... he would be legendary.

I hope we have a stellar season this year to show him that WSU is elite.

                  • So his dad was a shocker, his godfather was a shocker, and works out with a guy that went to a smaller university as well. Our coach is from the South, and recruiting some of his current friends and team mates.

Sounds like there are alot of things that could definitely help WSU in this quest.

A great season this year could only help too. Plus isn't WSU really high on one of his AAU teammates list right now?

                    • WSU is recruiting two of his AAU teammates that are in the class of '08, Delwan Graham and Pierre Jordon. Shockernet is real high on Graham and WSU has offered. It's to early in his recruitment to know how interested he is in us, as he hasn't trimmed his list. However he keeps mentioning us in the mix of many schools of interest. We have not offered Jordon, the Celtics' PG. I'm pretty sure I ran across an article that said he was interested mostly in two other schools. However I never could re-located article when it dawned on me he is on our recruiting list. So I'm not positive, but I think his interest is low.

                        • What intrigues me about players of Noel's caliber, is they have the potential to take us to the next level. It would be cool to be a consistant member of the Dance in the years to come. Futhermore, before Coach Marshall is done Coaching us to new heights, I would like to see one or more of his recruits get their number retired and their memory lifted to the raftors with our elite such as X, A.C., Stallworth, etc.

                          • He's playing in the Elite 24 at Rucker Park. Here's a little something from Page 2 at ESPN

This year/s photo will look different. Same amount of players, but not the same historical significance. Unless you look deep. Look past the talent assembled, and you’ll see how deep the history of this game really runs. Look at Noel Johnson, and his innocent face. Look for the game in his eyes. Because Noel is the son of on of NYC’s playground sons. His father, Lynbert “Cheese” Johnson (all-city, Haaren High ’76) ran these streets, ran these courts, before he played for the Golden State Warriors in the early ‘80’s.

Noel, a 6-foot-7 “prod” (product and prodigy of the Class of 2009) out of Atlanta, carries the game on his shoulders with almost every step he takes on the asphalt. He has a connection to this NYC playground that he inherited the second he was born. This game birthed him. “This is like a homecoming for me and him,” Cheese said on Thursday before boarding a plane to come to watch his son play. “Out of the 24 players in the game, 7-10 will be McDonald’s All-Americans this year. Being invited was a blessing, but at the same time I told my son when he’s on that court tomorrow, let ‘em know … let ‘em know that, ‘I’m here too!’”

On Friday night, 24 of the top high school basketball players in the country will play together in Rucker Park in Harlem. And they'll never forget it.

                            • Thanks Subgod22. Now that was some sweet scoop. Sometimes dreams come true. I would be totally amazed if any of the other Schools recruiting Noel had a recruiting board that had over 200 responses about him and his progress already. However, it does not surprise me that we have such a keen interest in Noel, due to the 'vintage of memories' we have of Cheese who was one of the all time greats here. Cheese has alot to be proud of with his son Noel and the accomplishments he has already achieved in the very game that Cheese excelled in and loved.
