The second year, we would have to bring in a juco or freshman who would learn the system the first semester and contribute the second semester. So over these 2 years, there would be 2 semesters learning the system and 2 semesters contributing.

If we bring in a juco transfer the first year (or even a freshman), they would learn the system the first semester and contribute the second semester. The second year, they would contribute for both semesters. So over the 2 years, there would be 1 semester learning the system and 3 semesters contributing.
Those are good points and make a lot of sense if everything else is more or less equal. Of course, there are circumstances where you might go against that logic depending on what your options are in terms of skill set, BBIQ, size, experience etc of the players you have a shot at and perhaps the needs of the current year team.

Who knows. You may be right. But with Gordon committed and Sheffield, Hinson, etc. possibilities and lots of turnover of players before next falls siging period, I'd think Gregg wants to have some of the 2019's in the fold.

      • I find it crazy that with all the playing time we have to offer we haven't signed one single Top 100 kid. I realize that 3G is great at spotting talent and turning Top 300 players into Top 100 players, but it would be nice to land a blue chipper or 2.

The really top kids tend to delay their commitments longer. Many waiting until the regular signing period in the Spring to commit and sign if then. They are in no danger of not landing at a good spot so a lot of these kids will wait as long as they can to commit and/or sign. Some will want to see who might be moving on to the NBA.

If 3G thinks he has a really good shot at landing one of these top kids he may keep a slot or two open through the Spring and perhaps beyond to accomodate that.

I have to admit I am less than totally confident about Gordon's commitment holding as I pretty much would most any quality commitment for the Class of 2019.

Maybe. I'm not overly confident. But he is from Alabama, not exactly a stellar basketball region. We are competing with a football power and UAB. I would imagine that he has a great relationship with Isaac Brown. We are currently a Top 5-10 team. I will look at the positives instead of just saying "we are Wichita State" and we don't have much to offer. I know I'm putting words in your mouth but it does have a little wo is me in your statement.

No doubt the Shocks are in the driver's seat with Gordon but commits this far out are pretty unusual and a lot can happen. I think he is going to have a lot of teams wooing him still over the next 14 months. I'm not losing any sleep over it but I'm not spending that cash just yet either.

and the more talent those players that fit our roster have the better.

It may take 3G another FF run or a local kid before he lands a blue chipper but I would be thrilled with four or five kids in the top 150 and there's a good possibility of doing just that in 2018.

                      • How many of the top 150s for 2018 are committed already?

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

                            • Moving to current page for convenience.

The Shocks will be replacing 6 seniors and possibly 1 or 2 underclassmen at the end of this season. 3G says he needs at least 1 of everything plus a special player.

I took the nifty list that @ShockTalk put together and added just a bit of color.
                              - Red: Players who do not have us among their finalists or have committed elsewhere
                              - Purple: Players with WSU on their top picks list

Not sure I agree with that as far as our post-players go. At this point Asbjorn wil be our most experienced post-man next year if you don't count Brett Barney (and I'm not). Asbjorn will be either a sophomore or a redshirt freshman but I think he plays this year. We have Isaiah Chandler coming aboard from Sunrise. IIRC Asbjorn has only been playing basketball about 5 or 6 years and Isaiah was cut from his 8th grade team. If you had a couple of more freshman post players to this mix we would be very inexperienced on the front line. Of course, you would rather be inexperienced their than at the guard postion I suppose. Even if you add 1 or 2 Jucos to the mix you are still inexperienced as far as D-1 experience is concerned. Probably the only way to get experience to nab a grad transfer of you can find one that meet your needs. This will be very interesting to see how 3G handles this. Maybe you don't need experience if you can land a one-and-done big but not sure that is in the cards this year.
