  • Didn't see this one coming.

    From Suellentrop:
Brown is more of a wing and will get some work at point guard this year for Sunrise Christian.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

    • Shouldn't be a total surprise as this kid has a lot of skills and is phenomenal with the ball in his hands. He's not going to be the PG, but he definitely has the ability to hold his own there if/when needed. I don't know what the roster for that team is going to look like just yet so hard to say.

It does show that this coaching staff thinks of Zach as more of a guard than a forward. He must have pretty good handles.

Or simply that they would like to see him have an opportunity to improve his ball-handling skills.

          • I am guessing, based on what I've read, that Kelly will be a PF/SF and Brown a SF/SG. I expect that Green is a SF/PF based on lateral quickness. All three are ~ 6-7 and a little slim. All three have HUGE ceilings, and I look forward to seeing their skills for the next several years!

            • Petty sure that Zach Brown was at the Emporia State game this last weekend. Saw a 6'7 kid with a south kent shirt so I would assume that is him. I can tell you he is all of 6'7 in person. He was with Trevon Evans of Goddard.

                        • Sunrise’s Zach Brown makes WSU choice official

Parents usually know before everybody else. Gary Brown knew the first time he watched his 5-year-old son play basketball in a Houston YMCA. As proof of the moment, he carries a picture on his phone of Zach Brown driving to the basket in his white shirt and blue shorts.

“He was taller than every kid in the gym,” Gary Brown said. “I have a picture of him when he first laid hands on basketball. When he took his first step, I said ‘Man, this kid is special.’”

Wichita State is counting on that. Brown, a 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward, is one of four athletes who signed letters of intent with Wichita State on Wednesday, the first day of the fall signing period. Brown signed his letter during an assembly at Sunrise Christian Academy on Wednesday afternoon. Students filled the small gym and his family sat with him.

“It’s good to finally put it on paper and finally be a part of the Shockers,” he said.

                          • Zach's Schedule:

They play Cloud tonite at Newman....torn between that and the women's game.

                            • First impression watching Zachary play: He is a two guard first and foremost, more so than a three. I didn't see an explosive scorer (although Cloud played a zone) but what I did see was a stat sheet filler ala Toure.

My best guess on Zach's line was 9 points, 6 or 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks and 5 assists. Mind you he plays on a team with at least six D-1 players and is not the main option on offense. They beat a decent Cloud County team tonight going away. He should fit into our system nicely with his length and motor, especially after strengthening his upper body. Could be a potential redshirt but I kinda doubt it.

I like stat sheet stuffers! Can't wait!
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
