I'm very excited to see Zach play. His skill set fits right in with the type of game we like to play. You have to love 6' 7" slashers who can also shoot the ball. He sounds like a player that Marshall and staff can turn into an absolute beast!

It sounds like we want a lot of players who are interchangeable parts (offense and defense) that can play a 4-1 type of offense to go with only one true post up type. Probably a lot of pressure defense and a team who can run and get up and down the court for easy baskets. We like them long, bulk them up a little and get after it.

“Knowing that they can actually win helped me with the recruiting process too and it’s going to help them with other people and help them get an even better class than they are recruiting.”
I love the attitude that thinks: "If I go there, I'll help bring in even better recruits than they're getting now".

And the rest of the story from Reggie Rankin, ESPN:
Junior forward Zach Brown (Houston/South Kent School) committed to Wichita State over Texas, Kansas State, Providence, Creighton and Washington on Saturday. Brown is the Shockers' first commitment in the Class of 2014.
Brown's stock has risen recently after a strong spring.
The 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward is an excellent athlete. He is an above-the-rim finisher on the break and a big-time driver/slasher in the half court. Brown does a great job getting to the rim and drawing fouls. At the RCS Sports Spring Ice Breaker in Houston in March, Brown was also a monster on the offensive glass with some timely tip-ins and a few tip dunks.
"I am best at driving and getting to the basket; I can shoot, but I want to get to the rim and get to the free-throw line. I have to keep working on my ball-handling and get stronger to get ready for college," said Brown.
Brown's toughness and competitiveness make him a very capable multiple-position defender as well. Brown plays with energy and urgency, which fits coach Gregg Marshall's recruit profile perfectly.
"I picked Wichita State because they have been recruiting me since my sophomore year," said Brown, who took his official visit to Wichita a week ago. "The coaches are great. I loved the community, and the fan base is amazing.
"I loved Coach Marshall. He is charismatic and he has been able to win at a high level."
Fresh off a Final Four run, Brown gives the Shockers a strong start for the Class of 2014."Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."

I would say that Brown is our highest rated recruit that we have received a commitment from prior to his senior year in a LONG time, perhaps ever. When we got a commitment from Morris and Bowles they were not rated this highly. VanVleet got his accolades later in the year. Any other top 150s we got in the spring signing period before their senior year?
Speaking of which, I would say that Zach Brown is our Teddy Hawkins 2.0 with attitude adjustment upgrade in the newest version.Livin the dream

From ESPN RUMORS: WHY BROWN CHOSE WICHITA STATE " On Monday, Wichita State landed a commitment from 2014 SF Zach Brown (Houston, Texas/South Kent School) despite heavy interest from a number of other big programs. Why'd the Texas native choose the Shockers?
South Kent coach Kelvin Jefferson tells The Wichita Eagle that Brown's impressive performance with the Texas Pro AAU team over the past month attracted attention from schools such as Kansas, Kansas State, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Providence and Creighton, but at the end of the day the swingman's heart remained with Wichita State.
"He talked with his family and said, 'That's great, but I know where I want to go. There's going to be a need for me,'" Jefferson told the newspaper. "Wichita State recruited him from Day One. He felt a sense of loyalty."
The Shockers' impressive run to the Final Four and near upset of eventual champion Louisville also played a factor, per Jefferson, impressing Brown with their level of telling and their style of play. In Brown, Gregg Marshall is getting a player in 2014 best known for his athleticism and defense, but also someone who can reportedly knock down the mid-range shot and get to the basket off the dribble. But most importantly, he's getting someone who's eager to be a part of the good things happening at Wichita State, and that's huge."
