    This 6'10 talk is silly.

Durley was a fine valley center at what I thought couldn't have been more than 6'7

Heck whenever I see early next to Carl Hall he looks slightly taller than Carl
The 6'10" talk is about future growth as his doc has apparently said he could grow to 6'11". If there are reports of 6'9", I'd guess he's at least close to 6'8" right now. Maybe a hair under. Nobody has said he is 6'10".

And it's not about being a center in the Valley. We don't build our teams to beat the Valley. We build our teams to win nationally. Height isn't everything, but a couple of extra inches help when you're facing bigger programs with 6'10"+ centers.

    • Who knows? I can see where 6'6 is old information because high school kids often shoot up quickly. I also can see where his high school could be lying about his height and he isn't as tall as they list him. It probably doesn't make him effective or ineffective either way. I've seen great players who play very big (taller than they are listed at) even though they aren't as tall as you would like.

If anyone wants to know for sure, call into the Gregg Marshall show about the difference in reports on his height tonight. If we know one thing about Gregg, he doesn't hold back what he knows.

Personally, I like the report about him being 6'10 in the future a lot but it could be a bunch of hooey.

        Ok...

All I'm saying is if there are reports about 6'6, 6'8, 6'9 he is probably a solid 6'7. Durley was a fine player outside of Valley games as well. I use the term Valley because thats where they play a majority of their games and who Morris will be competing with a majority of the time. I think he will be competing for All-Valley awards junior/senior year.

Some of you guys seem to take offense to everything. All I'm pointing out is some take what a doctor said as gospel and just expect a 6'10-6'11 center. Maybe so, I just choose to look at him as a 6'7-6'8 center with lots of beef. He will be fine, if he adds 2-3 inches great, if not great. My money is on him not adding 3 inches. Much like the MTN west dream I would be more than happy to eat a huge helping of crow.

        • Nobody takes the doctor as gospel. It's just been thrown out there as a possibility that he's not done growing. The only place that has reportedly shown 6'6" is Rivals database and I doubt that's really been updated in a while. Nobody has said they have issues with a 6'8" center either. I believe he's close to 6'8" on either side. I'm well aware that schools will stretch the height of a player by adding an inch here and there. It's not uncommon. I have no reason to believe 0U fans talking about the only reason they missed on him by making up excuses. That's been the only report of him being 6'6".

Nobody has taken offense. I was just throwing out the more recent info from what I'd consider more reliable than fans angry/upset that they didn't get one of the best players in their own state.

            right on...

I know I can be more half empty kind of guy so I just see it differently. Granted I think Shaquille 6'7 or 6'9 isn't half empty at all, he will be a load.

I care a lot how big he is. There are plenty of big 6'6" forwards with a lot of heart. We need guys at the 6'8"-6'9" range with a lot of heart on the post.

How can you guarantee that he is taller?

                    • Upon further investigation, I believe the announcers for the championship game were off on Shaq's height. I expect the Shockers will list him at 6-7 or 6-8 and I'm doubting further upward growth occurs.

                        • The following photo comes from an article dated: March 11, 2013. The players names and heights are listed from left to right. Jordan Woodard (5'11.5" (w/ shoes) 181lbs - Draft Express), Sam Kreutzer (6'2" 180lbs - Hudl.com), Shaquille Morris (6'8" 260lbs - Future150.com), Tyler Holcomb (6'5"- OUhoops.com) and Aaron Young (6' - OUhoops.com)

                          • Based on the photo above, I put Shaq at 6'7.5"ish. There was one report of Tyler Holcomb being 6'6". If that report is accurate, I would revise my estimate to 6'8" on Shaq. If he comes in at 6'8" I will be happy. If all those players in the picture are lying and Shaw is 6'6", I will be very sad. 6'6" ain't going to get 'er done on the national scene as a PF unless the player is VERY special. I believe X was around 6'6.5".

                            • Another way of looking at this is to take the most reliable height we have - to me that would be Woodard's Draft Express numbers considering they detail his height w/o shoes. I also found some info on body segments and their proportion to total body height. The head and neck was given a value of 10.75% of typical total body height.

If Woodard's height + shoes is 5'11.5", we will subtract the customary one inch lift gained by wearing basketball shoes. That puts Woodard at 5'10.5" bare foot. Now, if we take 10.75% of his total height, we are left with a rough estimate of the length of his head and neck: 70.5" * .1075 = 7.57875".

Using a small ruler against my monitor, it appears that Woodard's head and neck are 1cm tall. Using a piece of paper lined up with the top of Woodard's head and the intersection of Shaq's neckline, it appears that Shaq is 1.2cm's taller in the photo than Woodard. 120% of 7.578875" = 9.0945". Adding that height differential to Woodard's barefoot height: 70.5" + 9.0945" = 79.5945" or 6'7.5" barefoot. If we reapply the lift gained from basketball shoes, Shaq should be close to 6'8.5" in the team picture above.

I am happy with that number.
